The Minnesota Board of Dentistry is the independent State agency charged with protecting public health and safety regarding dental services provided in the State. The Board's mission is to promote and protect public health and safety; and ensure that every licensed dental professional practicing in the state meets the requirements for safe, competent and ethical practice.
The Executive Director (Director) provides leadership and works collaboratively with the nine-member board appointed by the Governor to ensure that the Minnesota Board of Dentistry (Board) carries out its statutory powers and duties to ensure that Minnesotans receive quality dental care from competent dental health professionals.
The Board currently regulates General Dentists, Faculty Dentists, Specialty Dentists, Limited General Dentists, Dental Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants, Limited Licensed Assistants, Dental Residents, and Resident Providers, and Guest Dental Professionals. The Director is responsible for ensuring that anyone who is granted a credential to practice under the Board's authority in Minnesota has met all the statutory mandated requirements for entrance to practice and ensure that anyone who holds a credential to practice continues to practice with reasonable skill and safety to their patients.
The incumbent directs the daily activities of the staff and fulfills the role of chief executive officer including maintaining the records of the Board, accounting for the Board's fiscal and human resources, serving as the Board's chief policy analyst and developing legislative and regulatory proposals, representing the Board to various local, state, and national committees, and serving as the Board's media liaison and spokesperson.
This position is eligible for a hybrid telework arrangement. With a telework arrangement, onsite attendance will be required for team members or as requested by management to meet business needs. Minimum Qualifications

Five years of experience in public administration, occupational or health regulation, public policy, law, or a closely related area.
Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of public policy and legislation development.
Experience in fiscal and asset management, including development of budgets.
Leadership skills to effectively manage Board's finances, staff, programs, and operations.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive work culture.
Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across diverse stakeholders, including clear writing as well as strong presentation skills.
Problem-solving skills sufficient to think beyond tried-and-true solutions and to provide the leadership necessary to foster an environment that promotes continuous improvement, collaboration and trust.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in public administration or public policy, health administration or law.
Understanding of the practice acts of the professions regulated by the Board and relevant laws.
Experience in managing team members and engaging in performance management-based conversations.
Experience leading strategic planning, risk assessment, organizational change, process improvement, communication and other change initiatives.
Knowledge of Minnesota state government, legislative and regulatory practices.
