The Manufacturing Technician supports a microbiology-focused manufacturing operation by producing agar-based products that are used in scientific and laboratory settings. In this role, you operate and adjust production machinery, handle materials, monitor product quality, and accurately document all work in compliance with established procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This position offers hands-on experience in large-scale manufacturing and kit production and is an excellent entry point into the scientific and regulated manufacturing field, with training provided for candidates who have limited prior experience or an associate or bachelor's degree in science.
Responsibilities
Efficiently and safely operate assigned manufacturing machinery in a microbiology production environment.
Perform simple maintenance on equipment and immediately report malfunctioning machinery to a supervisor or lead.
Set up and adjust machines to run different product sizes according to production requirements.
Obtain correct materials for production needs from the warehouse or staging areas and ensure they are available at the line.
Organize production flow to maintain an efficient process, including estimating line progress and scheduling breaks in alignment with the production time schedule.
Monitor product quality throughout the manufacturing process, checking volumes, appearance, and other key attributes.
Document all production activities accurately and review personal work for quality and compliance with procedures.
Assist with inventory processes by tracking materials and finished goods as required.
Accurately dispense required additives into media and apply proper techniques to achieve correct pH balance when needed.
Investigate and help remedy potential production failures or process deviations under guidance from established procedures.
Follow all written procedures, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and device history records (DHRs), and promptly report any discrepancies to the area supervisor.
Perform all work activities in a safe manner and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
Immediately report any property damage or safety hazards to the appropriate internal contacts, such as supervision, human resources, safety personnel, or senior leadership.
Complete production assignments in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental schedules and priorities.
Sign off on DHRs in the appropriate locations and enter all required information accurately in accordance with SOPs.
Support general production operations such as staging, production support, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
Essential Skills
Experience or strong interest in manufacturing, production, or related operational environments.
Ability to follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and adhere to written procedures and documentation requirements.
Capability to comprehend and communicate effectively in English, both in writing and verbally.
Ability to perform basic math to support measurements, calculations, and documentation.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push or pull wheeled kettles weighing up to approximately 600 lbs.
Ability to stand for sustained periods of time, up to approximately 10 hours per day.
Ability to see and distinguish colors to support quality checks and process controls.
High school diploma or equivalent from an accredited institution.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Interest in or exposure to microbiology, laboratory environments, or scientific manufacturing.
Experience in kit production, large-scale manufacturing, or similar regulated production settings.
Prior GMP experience in a manufacturing or laboratory @context.
Associate (AS) or bachelor's (BS) degree in a scientific discipline is welcomed and can be considered in place of extensive direct experience.
Willingness to learn new processes and equipment, with training provided for candidates who have limited direct manufacturing experience.
Ability to work effectively as part of a production team and communicate clearly with supervisors and colleagues.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality and compliance standards.
Work Environment
This role is based in a laboratory and cleanroom-style manufacturing environment focused on microbiology products. You work on a 2nd shift schedule from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., supporting continuous production operations. The environment involves operating and adjusting production machinery, handling media, additives, and wheeled kettles, and working around equipment that requires adherence to strict safety and GMP procedures. You wear appropriate personal protective equipment as required for cleanroom and laboratory conditions, and you spend most of the shift standing, moving between workstations, and handling materials. The setting offers exposure to modern manufacturing processes and technologies within a structured, process-driven, and quality-focused operation, with opportunities for growth and advancement within a large, nationally recognized organization.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $21.09 - $21.09/hr.
