Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Clinical Nurse Educator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization. Responsibilities The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for providing expert, evidence-based education to staff. Provides educational instruction and training for nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units. The Clinical Nurse Educator understands instructional design, implementation, and application related to education and training. Performs learning needs assessments, develops educational trainings for clinical staff within organization. Assists with the orientation of new employees, evaluation of their progress in the orientation process, and development and implementation of a learning plan for improving identified deficiencies. Serves as a trainer and consultant for Resuscitation Education Initiative (Redi) Program including certification as Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor. Monitors and tracks BLS/Advanced Life Support (ALS) compliance within the organization. Organizes, participates, and evaluates mock codes. Supports nurse residency programs including the development of curriculum utilizing strategic learning methodologies such as simulation, lecture case studies and virtual reality. Develops expert level coaching and mentoring skills. Systematically evaluates current practice, formulate outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within area of expertise. Collaborates with other Clinical Nurse Educators and interprofessional healthcare teams in the ongoing clinical education activities including in-services, training, competency assessment, and evaluations of both current and new staff nursing skills. Reviews current nursing literature for new trends and changes based on evidence-based research with the ability to propose practice and documentation revisions based on evaluation of outcomes. Collaborates with leadership and unit managers to identify educational training needs for staff, while supporting activities that foster competence, critical thinking, and decision making. Provides consultation and collaboration through the participation within organizational committees. Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate data to determine outcomes and changes related to educational programs. Responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Clear working knowledge of the Association for Nursing Professional Development (ANPD) Scope and Standards of Practice, including the ability to translate standards into practical educator behaviors, decision making, and program development. Broad understanding of the NPD practitioner roles (learning facilitator, change agent, consultant, leader, partner for practice transitions, etc.) and how these roles support safe, evidence based clinical practice. Demonstrated success serving as a preceptor for new nurses, students, or transitioning staff. This includes supporting competency development, modeling professional practice standards, and fostering psychological safety during learning. Experience acting as a unit, service line, or facility champion for organizational initiatives (e.g., quality, safety, evidence based practice, or regulatory readiness). Ability to communicate change, gain buy in, and coach staff through practice updates. A record of serving as a mentor or resource to peers, including supporting professional growth, role transition, and advancement of clinical practice. Experience designing, implementing, or improving orientation processes in either unit based or clinic based settings. Includes familiarity with structured orientation models, assessment of learner needs, and collaboration with preceptors. Skill in delivering clear, actionable, and psychologically safe feedback to learners and peers. Strong ability to coach performance, remediation, reinforce expectations, and use feedback as a development tool. Evidence of strong communication skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly, develop educational materials, deliver instruction effectively, and collaborate across interdisciplinary teams. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. The work may involve pushing or lifting more than 50 pounds and going up and down flights of stairs. The position requires visual and auditory acuity at a level to provide safe and effective nursing care. Basic Life Support (BLS) is required for RNs in direct patient care positions per policy; the supervisor may also direct BLS certification for other positions. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required in specific specialty areas and assignments per policy. Incumbent will be self-directed in completing orientation and on-going mandatory education. Will actively participate in competency assessment and validation. Specialty assignments may require a scope of practice for procedures beyond basic education.
