General Job Summary:
The Embedded Software Engineer will be responsible for the development, integration, analysis, verification, and test of embedded software supporting turbomachinery systems. This role includes architecting firmware and application-level capabilities on real-time operating systems, enabling reliable data processing, and subsystem coordination. The engineer will also contribute to communication protocol design, hardware/software integration, and embedded simulation or data modeling tools.
Essential Job Functions:
Applies knowledge of embedded systems, real-time operating environments, and data-driven software design to develop software requirements and interface specifications.
Designs, implements, and tests embedded applications running on real-time operating systems.
Develops, integrates, and tests communication protocols across hardware modules, sensors, or other mission-critical peripherals.
Performs system-level integration of embedded software with microcontrollers, communication devices, and mission subsystems.
Supports modeling and simulation of embedded data flows, command sequences, and hardware-in-the-loop behaviors to validate mission operations and system performance.
Creates and maintains supporting documentation including test plans, verification procedures, interface control documents, and design artifacts.
Coordinates with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure compatibility of embedded software with hardware architectures, communication systems, and operational constraints.
Participates in integration, checkout, troubleshooting, and qualification of proto@types and production systems in lab and field environments.
Software design review documentation and presentation to stakeholders/customers at program review gates.

Supervisory Responsibility: None
Required Experience:
Strong experience in embedded software development using C/C++ for real-time and resource-constrained systems.
Experience developing and integrating communication protocols (Ethernet, serial links, secure data transport).
Hands-on ability to interface with hardware platforms, microcontrollers, sensors, and peripheral devices.
Proficiency with scripting tools such as Python for automation, data manipulation, and interface simulation.
Familiarity with DevOps tools including Jenkins, Git version control, and CI/CD workflows.
Experience generating requirements, test documentation, interface definitions, and architecture artifacts.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to support hardware-in-the-loop and end-to-end system testing.
Experience working in Simulink and/or working with Simulink environment tools such as Embedded Coder.
Education and Experience:
BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited school
5+ years' experience in embedded software design, real-time systems, or mission-critical system development in aerospace, defense, or related industries
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Office and/or manufacturing environment
Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time
Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, mouse, phones, rotating wrist, using tools/equipment)
Low-voltage and high-voltage lab environments, working with Electrical Engineers and laboratory equipment (oscilloscopes, DC power supplies, LCR meters, etc.) to test embedded systems
