Job Title: Electrical Test Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on testing, validating, and troubleshooting electrical products up to 690V in a lean, one-piece-flow testing lab. You will install and maintain wiring and control systems, perform detailed electrical testing using a variety of test equipment, and document results to ensure products meet strict quality and safety standards. The position is 100% onsite on a second-shift schedule, with initial training on first shift.
Responsibilities
Work safely in a restricted access testing lab, strictly following safety protocols and standard operating procedures.
Perform visual inspections and electrical testing of products operating from 208V to 690V to verify performance and quality.
Install and maintain wiring, control, and lighting systems associated with test setups and industrial equipment.
Inspect electrical components and assemblies to identify defects, damage, or nonconformities.
Identify electrical problems using a variety of testing devices and diagnostic methods.
Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using appropriate hand tools and power tools.
Interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints to set up tests and perform wiring correctly.
Configure and wire test equipment and lab setups to support product validation and testing activities.
Use electronic test equipment such as Variacs, Hi-Pot/Ground Bond testers, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, current clamps, and digital multimeters to conduct tests.
Test and document output results of products, validating that measurements fall within specified pass ranges.
Troubleshoot failed tests using critical thinking and diagnostic tools to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Maintain and update the test report database, recording test data accurately and analyzing results to determine whether products meet quality standards.
Support validation and product testing activities, which make up the majority of daily work.
Perform go/no-go testing and basic number-crunching to verify electrical performance metrics.
Assist in testing proto@type firmware and embedded systems as part of device validation.
Contribute to continuous improvement in a lean, one-piece-flow environment by following standardized processes and suggesting enhancements where appropriate.
Essential Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical testing of products up to 690V.
3-5 years of overall experience in electrical, wiring, or electronics-related work.
Experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial electrical equipment.
Ability to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings, schematics, and blueprints.
Strong knowledge of AC power fundamentals, including the difference between energy and power.
Hands-on experience with electrical test equipment such as Variacs, Hi-Pot/Ground Bond testers, power analyzers, oscilloscopes, current clamps, and digital multimeters.
Proficiency in wiring tasks, including crimping and correctly selecting and identifying wire gauges (e.g., 10 AWG vs 12 AWG).
Demonstrated ability to identify and troubleshoot electrical problems using diagnostic methods and tools.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills, especially in evaluating and troubleshooting test failures.
Comfort working with mathematics and basic calculations related to electrical testing and analysis.
Personal commitment to injury-free operations and adherence to safety protocols in a restricted lab environment.
Ability to work 100% onsite on a second-shift schedule (2:30 PM-11:00 PM, Monday-Friday) and train on first shift as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Associate's degree in Electricity, Electronics, or a closely related field from an accredited college.
Experience working with devices that use embedded systems, including experience reading schematics and blueprints for such devices.
Experience with installation, testing, and troubleshooting of embedded or firmware-based products.
Familiarity with go/no-go testing methods and basic data analysis or number-crunching to validate test results.
Experience in a lean manufacturing or one-piece-flow environment.
Comfort working with non-PCB electrical assemblies and larger electrical chassis rather than board-level design.
Ability to configure lab equipment for various test scenarios and validation activities.
Experience maintaining test databases or documentation systems for recording and tracking test results.
