Technician I
Position Overview
The Technician I supports pilot-scale chemical testing by assisting with the setup, operation, teardown, and cleaning of process equipment and systems. Working closely with the Process Development Manager and Process Development Engineers, this role is hands-on and ideal for someone who enjoys working with equipment, troubleshooting mechanical systems, and contributing to process innovation in a controlled testing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Review and understand test documentation, including test request forms, PFDs, P&IDs, and SDSs; ask questions to ensure clarity and readiness before testing begins.
Retrieve raw materials from storage using electric pallet jacks and process them according to SOPs and batch orders.
Perform basic plumbing and install process utility lines such as steam, hot oil, water, and electrical connections.
Set up and inspect process equipment, instrumentation, and controls, including valves, insulation, guarding, and utility connections.
Calibrate, operate, and monitor mixers, feeders, pumps, and other processing equipment.
Continuously monitor tests, inspect equipment performance, and make adjustments to settings, pressures, and flows as required.
Conduct mechanical checkouts in collaboration with Process Development Engineers and assist with troubleshooting issues.
Accurately complete test documentation, including equipment settings, feed rates, and product rates.
Take, label, and organize samples during testing following established procedures.
Disassemble equipment after testing, thoroughly clean components, and return systems to storage.
Collect, weigh, and label all materials before and after testing, assisting with inventory reconciliation.
Move drums and containers of finished product (up to 180 lbs) onto pallets and operate a sit-down forklift to transport pallets to shipping or storage areas.
Required Qualifications
At least 1 year of experience in chemical processing, blending, mixing, or pilot/testing operations.
Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using hand and power tools.
Minimum 6 months of experience with equipment setup, maintenance, or troubleshooting.
Strong communication skills with close attention to detail.
Solid shop math skills, including fractions, conversions, measurements, scaling, and testing calculations.
Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
Experience with mechanical tasks such as repairs, blueprint reading, pneumatics, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
Forklift operation experience or the ability to become certified.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating forklifts and pallet jacks.
Experience handling hazardous materials.
Experience in testing, sampling, or laboratory support.
Strong material handling experience in an industrial environment.

Work Environment
This role operates on 2nd shift in an industrial chemical processing environment that can become warm during summer months. Proper ventilation, personal protective equipment, and face masks are provided due to steam and chemical processes.
Work takes place on multiple levels, with materials loaded on the upper level and testing, sampling, and palletizing performed on the lower level. Equipment includes forklifts, pallet jacks, and a freight elevator. Uniforms and locker rooms for both men and women are available onsite.

This is a Permanent position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $52000.00 - $62500.00/yr.
Excellent medical/dental benefits (company paid 75% of medical and dental benefits)
11 Paid Holidays and 1 floating holiday (Holidays paid day one while on contract)
Tuition reimbursement - has to be related to with current position or another position that be reasonably attainable within the company
Generous PTO/Vacation (2 weeks year one but can earn more with time)
Annually Wellness Day off with up to $100 reimbursement.
