Job Title: Industrial Maintenance Technician - Plastic Injection Molding
Job Description
This role focuses on preventative and reactive maintenance of plastic injection molding equipment and related mechanical and electrical systems in a clean, climate-controlled manufacturing environment serving the automotive HVAC industry. You will troubleshoot complex issues, perform minor fabrication, and work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative maintenance team to keep production running safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on plastic injection molding machines to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
Execute maintenance work orders and respond promptly to maintenance calls using a computerized maintenance management system (MicroMain CMMS).
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including vacuum systems, motors, gearboxes, and cylinders, with an emphasis on hydraulic systems and supporting pneumatic components.
Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems (approximately 80% of fluid power work) and pneumatic systems (approximately 20% of fluid power work).
Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including PLCs, sensors, relays, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), primarily working with 24V-220V circuits.
Connect a laptop to PLCs and use ladder logic to troubleshoot electrical system faults on platforms such as Omron, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, and Siemens.
Perform PLC-related troubleshooting on plastic injection molding and associated equipment to identify and correct control system issues.
Operate a fork truck to safely move large components, molds, and equipment as needed for maintenance and repair activities.
Perform minor fabrication and welding tasks, such as repairing or fabricating brackets and small components using ARC, MIG, and TIG welding techniques.
Work autonomously and without direct supervision to plan, prioritize, and complete maintenance tasks and projects.
Support the installation, maintenance, and optimization of new plastic injection mold machines and related auxiliary equipment.
Utilize a computer and CMMS for documentation, parts tracking, and communication of maintenance activities and equipment status.
Participate in an on-call rotation and occasional weekend work to support production needs and respond to urgent maintenance issues.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and enhance safety.
Essential Skills
5-10 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
Hands-on experience with preventative and reactive maintenance of plastic injection molding machines or comparable automated equipment.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic systems, with additional experience in pneumatic systems.
Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems, including vacuum systems, motors, gearboxes, and cylinders.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems, including PLCs, sensors, relays, and VFDs, primarily within the 24V-220V range.
Ability to connect a laptop to PLCs and use ladder logic for fault finding and troubleshooting.
Experience with PLC platforms such as Omron, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, and Siemens.
Proficiency with ARC, MIG, and TIG welding for repair and light fabrication work.
Ability to safely operate a fork truck to move heavy components and equipment.
Computer literacy and prior experience using a CMMS, preferably MicroMain CMMS.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple maintenance tasks.
Willingness to work an on-call schedule and occasional weekends as required by production demands.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with PLC programming in addition to PLC troubleshooting.
Familiarity with Conair pneumatic systems or similar auxiliary equipment used in plastics processing.
Direct experience in plastics manufacturing or plastic injection molding operations is a strong plus.
Ability to read and interpret detailed technical documentation, including equipment manuals and wiring diagrams.
Strong problem-solving skills and a methodical approach to diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues.
Effective communication skills to coordinate with production, engineering, and fellow maintenance team members.
