Electrical Maintenance Technician - El Cajon, CA
Job Description
This role focuses on electrical repair, installation, and preventive maintenance for production machinery and facility systems in a manufacturing and machine shop environment. The technician will support the installation and setup of new equipment, perform complex electrical diagnostics and repairs, and handle a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facilities maintenance tasks to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
Perform electrical repairs and preventive maintenance on production equipment, machinery, and facility systems, with a primary focus on electrical work.
Support the installation and setup of new production equipment, including electrical power, controls, and integration into existing systems.
Observe equipment in operation to identify, prevent, and diagnose potential problems before they lead to downtime.
Dismantle machinery and equipment to access, remove, repair, and replace defective or worn parts.
Install, repair, or rebuild equipment and replace ordinary parts as necessary to maintain optimal performance.
Keep machinery, equipment, and facility systems in good repair through both reactive troubleshooting and scheduled preventive maintenance.
Perform electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic system repairs on both facility and production equipment, including HVAC and refrigeration systems.
Read and interpret general construction and technical drawings, including plumbing, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatic schematics.
Maintain and service plumbing, gas, compressed air, drains, and wastewater systems throughout the facility.
Perform facility plumbing work such as working with PVC water lines, removing, replacing, and unclogging toilets, and replacing light ballasts.
Install, maintain, and repair air lines made of PVC or copper, as well as associated industrial electrical equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC motor controls and related electrical components operating up to 480 volts.
Perform PLC troubleshooting and electrical maintenance on industrial equipment and controls.
Work with AC voltage in the range of approximately 180V to 480V, ensuring safe and compliant electrical practices.
Install, troubleshoot, and service transformers, including adjusting voltages and performing electrical diagnostics.
Perform panel preventive maintenance, including checking for loose fuses, identifying hot spots using a thermal (FLIR) gun, and ensuring overall panel integrity.
Check voltages on machines, verify continuity, and perform detailed electrical testing to support accurate troubleshooting.
Use control logic and ladder logic to read Fanuc control diagrams and logic, diagnosing and repairing issues on equipment where most systems run on Fanuc controls.
Resolve power supply issues on AC and DC motors, including checking for blown fuses, wiring problems, and control faults.
Troubleshoot and repair breakers and heavy industrial equipment to restore safe and reliable operation.
Perform reactive maintenance to resolve urgent breakdowns, then follow up with preventive maintenance tasks and facility repairs to reduce future issues.
Maintain and repair a variety of NC and CNC equipment, including press brakes, CNC brake presses, seam welders, shears, CNC turret punch presses, punch presses, spot welders, power rolls, power rollers, hydro presses, resistance seam welders, and expanders.
Essential Skills
Strong electrical repair and installation skills for industrial machinery and facility systems.
Hands-on experience working with 440V and 480V three-phase power systems.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems.
Ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and general construction drawings.
Experience with industrial electrical panels, including panel preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
Control logic and ladder logic troubleshooting skills, particularly with Fanuc controls.
Ability to diagnose and repair AC and DC motor controls and related power supply issues.
Experience working with transformers, including voltage adjustment, installation, and troubleshooting.
Competence in performing mechanical repairs on production machinery and facility equipment.
Ability to perform plumbing maintenance, including working with PVC lines, toilets, and drains.
Experience maintaining and repairing compressed air systems, including PVC and copper airlines.
Proficiency in using electrical test equipment for checking voltage, continuity, and identifying hot spots.
Demonstrated experience performing both reactive maintenance and structured preventive maintenance in an industrial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience maintaining and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in an industrial environment.
Proficiency in maintaining NC and CNC equipment such as press brakes, CNC brake presses, seam welders, shears, CNC turret punch presses, punch presses, spot welders, power rolls, power rollers, hydro presses, resistance seam welders, and expanders.
Familiarity with industrial analog and digital control systems and general analog mechanics.
Comfort working with industrial electrical equipment and heavy machinery in a production environment.
Ability to manage a varied workload that includes production equipment maintenance as well as facility maintenance tasks.
Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to move from immediate repairs to preventive improvements.

Work Environment
The role is based in an aerospace manufacturing and machine shop environment, working directly with production machinery, NC and CNC equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and a wide range of industrial electrical equipment. The work involves spending significant time on the production floor and in facility areas, performing hands-on repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance. You will regularly work with high-voltage systems, heavy equipment, and shop tools, following established safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment. The environment is fast-paced and equipment-intensive, requiring attention to detail, safe work practices, and comfort working around machinery, electrical panels, compressed air systems, plumbing systems, and HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $45.00/hr.
