A well-established commercial general contractor seeks an experienced Superintendent to oversee ground-up commercial construction projects from initial site clearing through final closeout. Responsibilities
Oversee ground-up commercial construction projects from grubbing and site clearing through final completion and closeout.
Manage and coordinate all subcontractor activities on site to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
Enforce project standards, quality control measures, and safety protocols throughout all phases of construction.
Produce consistent and accurate field documentation, including detailed daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.
Develop, maintain, and update four-week look-ahead schedules to drive project progress and anticipate resource needs.
Review and break down look-ahead schedules with subcontractors on a weekly basis to align expectations and resolve issues proactively.
Lead weekly subcontractor coordination meetings to review progress, address conflicts, and confirm upcoming work plans.
Communicate effectively and regularly with project management and field leadership to report status, risks, and opportunities.
Participate in ongoing collaboration with other superintendents to share best practices and continuously improve field operations.
Maintain momentum, decisiveness, and a solutions-oriented mindset in a fast-paced construction environment.
Utilize construction management tools, including Procore, to manage documentation, scheduling, and project controls.
Interpret and work from blueprints and construction documents to ensure accurate execution of design intent.
Support tenant improvement and site construction activities as needed, particularly in retail and related environments.
Essential Skills
7-10+ years of Superintendent experience on ground-up commercial construction projects.
Proven experience managing projects from initial site work through final closeout.
Demonstrated success in subcontractor management and coordination on active job sites.
Strong understanding of construction scheduling, including development and management of look-ahead schedules.
Proficiency with field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and Job Hazard Analyses.
Experience working with Procore or similar construction management software.
Solid knowledge of construction safety practices and OSHA standards, supported by OSHA 30 certification.
Hands-on experience in commercial construction, including ground-up and tenant improvement work.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and other construction documents accurately.
Experience working with or for a general contractor in a superintendent or construction supervision capacity.
Strong communication skills to interface effectively with subcontractors, project managers, and field leadership.
Proven ability to maintain quality control and enforce project standards in the field.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with retail, dental, medical, or small grocery ground-up or tenant improvement projects is preferred.
Comfort operating within standardized programs and repeatable build processes supported by historical data and checklists.
Background in construction management or project management within commercial construction environments.
Familiarity with site construction activities, including grubbing, clearing, and site development.
Experience in quality control on commercial projects, ensuring compliance with plans, specifications, and standards.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative superintendent culture and contribute to shared best practices.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make timely, informed decisions in the field.
Work Environment
The role is based in the field on ground-up commercial construction and tenant improvement projects, including retail and similar environments. You will work primarily on active construction sites, overseeing activities from initial site clearing and site development through building completion and closeout. The environment is fast-paced and schedule-driven, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and adherence to standardized processes. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $43.00 - $52.00/hr.
