GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Disability Determination Services (DDS) at the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking an Office Support Specialist to provide support to the disability examiner unit, which consists of Disability Examiners, Senior Disability Examiners, and Disability Hearing Officers. The Office Support Specialist will prepare claims for disability determination specialists and disability hearing officers by developing claims that require requests for medical evidence and send various forms to claimants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed in the job level.
Prepares claims for the Disability Determination Specialists and Disability Hearing Officers to adjudicate claims at the initial, appellate, and continuing entitlement levels for disability benefits filed under the Social Security Act based on federal regulations, standards, and guidelines; independently develops, analyzes, and evaluates medical, psychiatric, vocational, and essential third-party evidence for consistency, validity, and sufficiency.
Performs claim screening of Social Security disability claims to determine if there are missing forms including but not limited to SSA-827, SSA-3367, SSA-3368, SSA-3369, and SSA-1696.
Conducts status checks of medical evidence of record and consultative examination reports. Documents actions taken on Social Security disability claims.
Faxes documents to medical vendors. Ensures received faxes are filed appropriately and accurately.
Performs various mail room duties, including distributing mail to appropriate parties.
Greets public and/or claimants and directs calls and incoming claimant questions to the appropriate party, ensuring claimant confidentiality.
Creates barcode sheets for various forms and letters. Scans various documents into the electronic disability folder. Reviews the orphan queue at different times of the day to associate documents to the correct electronic folder.
Tracks the hours of each medical consultant weekly and provides information to the Senior Accountant for payment.
Attends meetings and trainings and performs other duties as assigned to support the organization.

Experience with answering phones and the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner with clients is preferred.
Preference may be given to those with exceptional customer service.
Preference may be given to those who are able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to learn and apply Social Security Administration rules, regulations, and DDS business processes.
Proficiency in using basic computer software and email.
Proficiency in the use of keyboarding.

Ability to communicate effectively in potentially high-stress and confrontational situations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Business)
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Support Specialist I.
OR:
Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Support Specialist I.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.
