Job Title: Lab Technician
Job Description
The Lab Technician works under close supervision to perform routine laboratory testing and analysis in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and industry methods. This role supports product testing for a variety of materials and consumer products, ensuring that all work meets applicable standards and safety requirements. The position offers the opportunity to learn the physical testing industry and contribute to testing programs for large organizations.
Responsibilities
Perform routine laboratory tests following established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and approved methods.
Validate the performance of test methods as required and document results accurately.
Conduct testing in accordance with applicable standards, including ASTM, CSPA, SSC, and customer-specific protocols.
Carry out physical and consumer testing on a range of products such as paper, corrugated materials, and personal care products.
Perform various measurements and tests, including physical laboratory testing, tensile testing, chemical analysis, and absorption testing.
Apply principles of chemistry, biology, and analytical techniques to support testing activities.
Record, organize, and maintain test data in a clear and accurate manner for review and reporting.
Ensure compliance with all local and federal safety processes, procedures, and laboratory guidelines at all times.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe laboratory workspace, including proper handling and storage of chemicals and materials.
Collaborate with team members and supervisors to prioritize work, meet testing deadlines, and support customer requirements.
Participate in training on new methods, equipment, and safety procedures to continuously improve skills and performance.
Essential Skills
Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Geology, Zoology, or another Natural Science field.
Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience, which may include previous work experience or internships.
0-4 years of overall professional experience in a related scientific or laboratory setting.
Hands-on experience with general laboratory practices and procedures.
Knowledge of chemistry and wet chemistry techniques, including titration.
Familiarity with analytical chemistry methods and basic chemical analysis.
Experience working in a biology or chemistry lab environment.
Ability to follow written SOPs, methods, and testing standards precisely.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in performing tests and recording data.
Commitment to following safety regulations and maintaining a safe laboratory environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Multiple natural science disciplines, such as biology, environmental science, chemistry, microbiology, physics, geology, or zoology.
Exposure to physical testing methods, including tensile testing and absorption testing.
Experience supporting product testing for consumer or industrial products.
Ability to learn new testing methods and adapt to evolving customer protocols.
Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with laboratory staff and stakeholders.
Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tests and meet deadlines.
Interest in a contract role with potential for extension or conversion to a permanent position.
Work Environment
This position is based in a laboratory environment operating Monday through Friday, typically from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Once fully trained, start times may be flexible, and team members may begin work earlier than 8:00 a.m. if desired. The lab setting involves working with physical testing equipment, performing tensile and other mechanical tests, and conducting wet chemistry and analytical chemistry procedures. The role requires adherence to strict safety processes and procedures, careful handling of chemicals and test materials, and consistent use of appropriate laboratory attire and protective equipment. The environment supports learning and development in the physical testing industry while contributing to product testing for large organizations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
