The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining accurate and reliable financial records by performing bank reconciliations, managing general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, and supporting month-end close activities. This position offers meaningful exposure to a broad range of accounting functions and provides room for growth for someone looking to build a long-term career in accounting or finance.

Responsibilities

Perform daily, weekly, and monthly bank reconciliations for multiple accounts to ensure the accuracy and completeness of cash records.

Investigate and resolve discrepancies between bank statements and internal records in a timely and accurate manner.

Prepare and post journal entries related to cash transactions and other routine accounting activities.

Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including account reconciliations and supporting schedules.

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure proper classification and recording of financial transactions.

Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and clear explanations as needed.

Assist with other accounting functions such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll when required.

Ensure compliance with internal controls, company accounting policies, and standard accounting practices.

Essential Skills

Proven experience performing bank reconciliations and resolving discrepancies.

Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.

Hands-on experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUP functions.

Solid knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.

Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial work.

Ability to analyze financial data, identify issues, and propose solutions.

Effective organizational and time management skills to handle recurring deadlines.

Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with colleagues and auditors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associate or bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.

Experience with bank reconciliations across multiple accounts or entities.

Exposure to accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processes.

Interest in professional growth and willingness to take on additional responsibilities over time.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an accounting team.

Work Environment

This is an on-site role, based in the office five days a week, providing close collaboration with the accounting team and exposure to a full range of day-to-day financial operations. You will work primarily with standard office technology and accounting software, with frequent use of Microsoft Excel for reconciliations, analysis, and reporting. The environment supports learning and professional growth, making it well-suited for someone looking to get their foot in the door and advance in an accounting or finance career.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Gulf Breeze, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $31.25/hr.
