Summary This position serves as the Supervisory Supply Technician (Medical) for the Medical Supply Distribution (MSD) areas of Logistics Service within the Miami VA Health Care System. As a Supervisory Supply Technician, you will ensure that supplies and material are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics by supervising and managing the primary inventory points that receives, stores and issues supplies and materials for both clinical and administrative service areas of the medical center. Responsibilities includes but not limited to: Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; sets and adjusts short term priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work based on priorities. Advises, counsels and instructs employees on work and administrative manners, such as complaints, grievances, etc. Finds and implements ways to eliminate or reduce significant bottlenecks and barriers to production. Provides guidance and evaluates work involving new, complex or unusual situations and those without clear precedence. Oversee management and distribution of all supplies and material in the medical center through subordinates who maintain stock, monitor expiration dates and rotating stock, ensure critical supplies are monitored, perform daily inventory, resolve differences in records, distribute items, deliver supplies in a timely manner, and complete specialty cart preparation. Oversee the receipt of supplies and material into the medical center. Ensure supplies are unpacked and properly stored in inventory areas. Analyzes and resolves difficult issues and problems to plan effectively and render equitable and reliable decisions. conducts market research on all new products and ensures they are recorded in the automated inventory system. Ensures availability of recurring supply items which are managed and distributed through the computerized inventory management system. Analyzes management reports to manage and control the fund control point limitations and identify trends, correct errors, and resolve problems. Works with members of the vendor and/or contract community, managers, supervisors and other staff throughout the medical center on Logistics issues; and Communicate with subordinate staff and other administrative and clinical staff to coordinate and persuade logistics activities on the implementation of policy or procedural changes. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/20/2026. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: Work is normally accomplished within a supply office and supply distribution points with the majority of time utilizing the automated inventory system for inventory management, processing orders, distributing supplies, conducting physical inventories in the warehouse and various supply points. Responsible for the storage and distribution of supplies to both primary and secondary inventory points, as well as within the bulk supply areas. This may include movement of stock to assist in counting, storing, rotating, and retrieving items from shelves and cabinets. Physical exertions and demands include standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching, and pushing/pulling supply carts and lifting supplies up to 50 pounds are required. Works primarily in a supply office and supply distribution points that support the Storage and Distribution of supplies. Multiple interruptions are experience throughout the day resulting from telephone and personal contacts with individuals requiring information, guidance, or problem solving. Protective and special clothing is worn to prevent exposure to dangerous materials; hair covers, shoe covers, and gloves are worn as required when delivering supplies into clean/sterile areas and managing verification of inventory stock levels within the primaries.
