About Indiana Women's Prison:
Indiana Women's Prison is a maximum-security facility located in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 700 incarcerated adult females. As the oldest women's correctional facility in the United States, it serves individuals with diverse needs, including pregnant, elderly, youthful, medically complex, and high-profile incarcerated adult females. The facility features the Officer Breann Leath Memorial Maternal-Child Health Unit, which supports family bonding and re-entry planning. Incarcerated individuals have access to mental health services, substance use treatment, domestic abuse programming, and educational opportunities. Programs focus on rehabilitation and building confidence for life after release. Staff support a safe, structured environment focused on healing and growth. Role Overview:
The Maternal Child Health Director is an essential position for IDOC Medical Division and the Indiana Department of Correction. The purpose of the Maternal Child Health Director is to oversee day-to-day operations of the Officer Breann Leath Maternal Child Health Unit (Leath MCHU) to ensure the continuum of care is provided for all pregnant individuals incarcerated in IDOC. The Maternal-Child Director will serve as a leader to ensure all program initiatives are completed. In this position, you will utilize education, consultation, cooperative programming, and coordination to accomplish goals. Other reesponsibilities include:
Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and local agencies.
Collaboration with facility staff, contracted vendors, volunteers, external agencies, and other Department leaders for the smooth operation of the unit.
Responsible for seeking and managing donations to assist with funding on the unit.
Direct supervision and oversight of supply management.
Operate as an on-call contact after hours, weekends, and holidays for any emergencies relating to the Leath Unit.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $53,222.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Monitor key performance indicators and program objectives to ensure program effectiveness.
Assist in developing, updating, and monitoring all policies and procedures related to the program area.
Interpret and explain policies, rules, regulations, or laws to leadership or customers.
Implement corrective action plans to solve program problems.
Answer customer questions about program policies and procedures.
Act as technical consultant to stakeholders to clarify and interpret policies and procedures.
Analyze, prepare and disseminate monthly and annual program reports.

Review the budget to ensure program assets are allocated appropriately provide budgetary recommendations to improve program area finances.
Monitor compliance and make recommendations to the program to increase efficiencies.
Prepare training materials and train agency employees on program requirements and usage.
Deliver communication plans and communications.
Serve as a liaison between agency and other state and federal agencies.
Serve on management committees or other governing boards.
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Public Health, Medical, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, or related field.
Five years of experience in appropriate fields (criminal justice, corrections, social work, education, public health).
Expert knowledge of transition planning for vulnerable populations and administrative procedures.
Ability to organize/manage multiple projects; collaborate/work with a team, internal and external stakeholders including unit participants, employees, vendor staff, outside state agencies, and departmental staff; and create/manage partnerships.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of maternal health best practices and standards, correctional system, and public safety concerns.
Thorough knowledge of social determinants of health and best practices to address these.
Knowledge of Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access) is required.
Thorough knowledge of Indiana Penal Code and Department of Correction policies and procedures.
Expectational ability to communicate both orally and written.
Expectational ability to monitor and management multiple projects and deadlines at a time.
Ability to develop and implement new correctional policies and procedures while discerning possible future implications.
