Job Summary and Qualifications
The Speech Therapist provides high quality, patient-centered care by developing and conducting individualized therapy programs for patients with communication, cognitive and/or swallowing impairments. As an active member of the health care team, the Speech Therapist performs comprehensive patient assessments and establishes appropriate treatment goals. The Speech Therapist serves as an educator to patients, families, students and colleagues
What you will do in this role:
Conducts a subjective assessment of assigned patient's speech language abilities during spontaneous conversation. Administers objective tests to assess patient's communication assets and liabilities.
Compares results to standardized data to evaluate communicative function.
Structures and implements individualized patient program to improve communication abilities.
Evaluates patient regularly during treatment and adjusts program as needed to maximize patient progress.
Documents progress in patient's chart. Completes notes, charges, discharge notes and patient communication.
Provides ongoing education to patient and family as needed.
Collaborates effectively with all members of the rehabilitation team.
Maintains a safe, secure, and infection/hazard-free environment.
Consults with Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine appropriate placement of potential patients.
Serves as an educational resource to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, payor representatives, physicians, discharge planners, therapists, community members, and other parties as appropriate regarding rehabilitation issues.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, payor representatives, hospital administration, community members, and referral sources.
Implements operations and processes to support, facilitate, and maintain uniform performance of inpatient care.
Supports interdepartmental performance-improvement/customer satisfaction activities.
Completes assigned non-clinical duties when the need arises.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Practices and adheres to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement."
What qualifications you will need:
Basic Cardiac Life Support
(COTA) Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant
Licensed in the state of Texas required
Associate Degree from an OTA program is required
Experience in an IPR setting preferred
Must be able to work weekdays with rotating weekends and occasional holidays
