Job Summary and Qualifications
Utilizes the nursing process to direct and deliver comprehensive nursing care to Cath Lab patients in a safe and proficient manner, in accordance with individual patient needs. Provides guidance and supervision of Cath Lab personnel as needed. Assumes Charge responsibilities when necessary. Assist in all procedural set up to facilitate schedule flow. Functions in all Cath Lab roles such as scrub assist and hemodynamic monitoring as needed. Acts as patient advocate within the hospital environment.
What you will do:
Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization in accordance with hospital policies, standards of care, and Cath Lab procedures. Performs thorough patient assessments upon arrival and throughout care, identifying changes in condition, prioritizing needs, responding to emergencies, and promptly notifying physicians and team members.
Accurately carries out and documents physician orders, including verbal and telephone orders, and ensures complete, timely, and compliant documentation of assessments, interventions, medication administration, patient responses, pacemaker data, and procedural charges. Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
Educates patients and significant others regarding procedures, post-cath care, and treatment plans, considering age-specific needs for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations and assessing comprehension.
Administers topical, oral, parenteral, and IV medications; performs venipuncture; manages IV fluids, central lines, sheaths, and infusion catheters; and provides routine post-cath care including sheath removal, hemostasis, monitoring, and physician notification as indicated.
Functions independently and collaboratively within the Cath Lab, assisting with patient transport, room turnover, equipment cleaning, supply inventory, and scheduling coordination. Acts as scrub assist, monitor/hemodynamics operator, and table support for physicians when trained and assigned. Gathers and calculates hemodynamic data (e.g., cardiac output, valve areas, ejection fraction) to support diagnostic decision-making.
Demonstrates proficiency with Cath Lab equipment, infusion pumps, monitors, and crash carts, including BLS and code response. Adheres to strict sterile and aseptic technique, radiation safety standards, and all hospital safety initiatives. Communicates clearly and professionally with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments to facilitate safe, efficient workflow and continuity of care.
What qualifications you will need:
Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
(RN) Registered Nurse must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
Associate Degree
1 years experience Required Years of Experience.
Critical Care experience preferred
