A Mirror Systems D&R (Design & Release) Engineer is responsible to design, develop, validate and release parts (Inside and outside mirrors.) under their responsibility for assigned program(s). The D&R engineer will lead early development and system feasibility with studio and program management team(s). The D&R engineer is responsible for continuous design efficiency which includes but is not limited to design improvements to quality, cost, and weight. The D&R engineer is responsible to design parts in compliance with Corporate, Local, and Global Regulatory Requirements, considering WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES (Engineering Specifications), SDS (Systems Design specifications). The D&R engineer is responsible to design parts that meet Manufacturing and Assembly requirements and oversee incorporation at the Assembly Plant(s).
The D&R Engineer is responsible for managing product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis. This role also includes facilitating supplier data integration and developing CAD studies to support and drive design improvements.
The D&R Engineer is expected to understand and effectively utilize product check-in/check-out processes, version control, data release, and change management within Ford's PLM ecosystem.
The D&R Engineer will perform feasibility analyses using CAD tools, including draft angle analysis, undercut detection, minimum bend radius validation for sheet metal, and clearance checks to support manufacturing and machining requirements.
What you'll do...
Role will require travel to part manufacturing sites and vehicle manufacturing sites (domestic and international).
Role will require travel for extended periods of time to support launch at Ford Assembly Plant(s) (domestic and international).
D&R work requires to be in compliance with Program cost, weight, quality, performance and timing targets (Waterfall process).
D&R expected to understand GPDS (Global Product Development System) and create plans to deliver on time.
D&R work requires to be in compliance with Robustness Engineering Disciplines (Failure Mode Avoidance Tools).
Role will require development of ESOW (Engineering Statement of Work), EC (Engineering concepts) and participate in the Sourcing Process (SOBA, ED&T review, piece and tooling cost review and CPA).
D&R expected to actively participate in Technical Design Reviews.
D&R required to release parts in BOM tool(s) and WERS through the product life cycle. Support Change Control Process.
D&R required to audit and update BOM (Bill of Material) with correct part levels and usage, for proto@type builds and maintain it post Job 1.
D&R required to be aware of Worldwide Engineering changes and proceed accordingly.
D&R required to identify validation, durability and functional test required as per SDS & ES. (DVP / FEDE Workbench).
D&R required to leverage AIMS root cause analysis and permanent actions implementation.
D&R required to define and verify engineering proto@types requirements at part level.
D&R required to participate in parts implementation/sign-off at assembly plant & assistance with quality issues.
D&R required to oversee PDL revisions and proceed accordingly if affected.
D&R required to support VQR's, VRT's and PVT, as required.
D&R required to collaborate with STA with technical assistance through the Supplier Engagement Process.
D&R required to deliver by applying the Ford Performance +.
You'll have...
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering or a related field.
3+ years of experience in development of automotive body exterior/interior systems in an engineering role.
1 year of CAD experience.
Even better, you may have...
Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering or a related field.
Experience with studio interface of Class "A" Parts.
CAD experience with TCE / CATIA / 3DX. Parametric modeling experience preferred.
Lean Six Sigma Green or Black belt preferred.
Knowledge of craftsmanship expectations, and benchmarking.
Knowledge of Exterior Systems and packaging requirements.
Demonstrated ability to lead team to resolve complex packaging issues.
English proficiency; fluid speaker with ability to negotiate and lead small team.
Technical communication skills (Presentations & Negotiations).
Meeting/time management (Recurrence, Agenda, expected outcomes, time management, minutes).
Microsoft Office Tools proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point).
Knowledge of exterior systems commodity manufacturing processes.

This position is a salary grade 5 and ranges from $65,100-$109,300.
This position is a salary grade 6 and ranges from $74,300-$124,500.
This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $86,600-$144,900.
This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $99,100-$166,200.
Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
