The Council is seeking a skilled and motivated professional to serve as our Scientific and Environmental Monitoring Program Manager!
We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented professional with expertise in scientific research coordination, environmental monitoring, and technical project management. This position leads the Council's work related to scientific research and environmental monitoring associated with oil transportation and marine operations in Prince William Sound. The role supports the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) comprised of volunteers, and works closely with staff, scientists, industry representatives, regulators, and other stakeholders.
The Scientific and Environmental Monitoring Program Manager's responsibilities include:
Managing scientific research projects, contracts, and consultants related to water quality, hydrocarbon pollution, dispersants, invasive species, and oil spill impacts.
Coordinating the development and execution of the Scientific Advisory Committee's annual work plan and supporting the committee in meeting its strategic goals.
Reviewing scientific studies, regulatory developments, and emerging research to inform Council recommendations and positions.
Preparing clear and effective written materials, including technical reports, presentations, committee packets, and public communications.
Facilitating Scientific Advisory Committee meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and follow-up documentation.
Collaborating with scientists, regulatory agencies, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to gather input and share Council perspectives.
Tracking project budgets, processing invoices, and ensuring compliance with procurement and contract policies.
Supporting the application of research findings to oil spill contingency planning, policy development, and scientific review processes.
Representing the Council at relevant meetings, workshops, conferences, and trainings.
Monitoring scientific and environmental developments relevant to the Valdez Marine Terminal and tanker operations.
Qualifications - Candidates should have a bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, marine science, or a related field, along with at least three years of relevant professional experience in scientific research, environmental monitoring, oil spill response, or a related field. Strong written and verbal communication skills, project management experience, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.
This is a full-time, on site, exempt position with a starting annual base salary of $98,642 (with room for negotiation depending on experience). An additional 10% cost of living adjustment will be provided for the Valdez location. After 60 days, an additional 25% of base salary is added for optional benefits (for example, a salary range of $123,300-$165,000 could be obtained after 60 days, which includes additional 25% benefits and Valdez cost of living adjustment).
Location
This position is based in Alaska. The Council's preferred office location for this position is in Valdez; however, Anchorage may be considered depending on the selected candidate.
