Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description
The Mechanical Engineer designs, analyzes, and supports the development of advanced aerospace and electromechanical systems. This role focuses on 3D modeling, structural and thermal analysis, testing, and product support throughout the development lifecycle, with a strong emphasis on reliability, safety, and design for manufacturability in military and commercial aerospace applications.
Responsibilities
Use PTC Creo to model mechanical and mechatronic components, including rotating components, brakes, clutches, actuators, valves, sheet metal structures, composite fairings, and general aerospace structures.
Perform basic and finite element analysis (FEA) of custom designs for strength, fatigue, vibration characteristics, thermodynamics, and motion studies using CAD-assistive and FEA software tools such as ANSYS.
Create or assist with qualification test procedures, acceptance test procedures, and validation procedures for development hardware.
Oversee and assist the drafting team with the development and checking of two-dimensional drawings, including machining, assembly, and electrical drawings, as well as annotated 3D CAD models.
Conduct investigative and qualification testing to meet military and aerospace standards and requirements, including MIL-STD 810 or comparable commercial standards.
Write clear and comprehensive engineering technical reports typically required during multi-year aerospace development programs.
Support the introduction of new but proven technologies to ensure first-in-class product reliability, safety, and operational productivity.
Assist with or perform assembly and rework of development mechanical and packaging designs.
Support the production floor by troubleshooting mechanical components for initial and ongoing production articles.
Collaborate closely with engineers from other disciplines to meet technical objectives defined by project leadership.
Work professionally and constructively with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers to achieve project goals.
Apply design for manufacturability principles to ensure that designs can be efficiently produced and maintained.
Perform weight analysis, loads analysis, vibration analysis, fatigue analysis, and EMI-related testing support as needed.
Essential Skills
At least 4+ years of experience in aerospace or aviation electrical/mechanical design.
Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or Aeronautical Engineering.
Hands-on experience with PTC Creo or similar 3D CAD software for mechanical design and modeling.
Experience performing finite element analysis (FEA), including strength, fatigue, vibration, and thermal analysis, preferably using ANSYS or similar tools.
Understanding and/or experience with MIL-STD 810 or comparable commercial aerospace standards.
Experience in mechanical engineering in support of military or commercial marketplaces.
Proficiency in drawing review utilizing Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
Experience with electro-mechanical systems and components.
Ability to conduct and support design for manufacturability activities.
Strong ability to write clear, detailed engineering technical reports.
Experience with vibration analysis, fatigue analysis, and weight and loads analysis.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with aerospace and mechatronic components such as actuators, brakes, clutches, valves, and rotating machinery.
Background in EMI testing or supporting EMI-related engineering activities.
Familiarity with composite structures and fairings, sheet metal structures, and general aerospace structures.
Experience supporting investigative and qualification testing to aerospace and military standards.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams, production, customers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Demonstrated success in environments where self-starters and proactive problem-solvers thrive.
Interest in long-term career growth within a stable, high-retention organization.
Work Environment
This is a full on-site role, working Monday through Friday from approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work in a professional engineering and production environment that supports aerospace and military-related programs, using tools such as PTC Creo, FEA software (e.g., ANSYS), and standard CAD and drafting systems. The workplace emphasizes collaboration with engineering, drafting, and production teams, as well as interaction with customers, subcontractors, and suppliers. The environment is described as stable, with a high retention rate, minimal internal politics, and significant room for growth. Self-starters who enjoy challenging, technically complex work and a supportive, professional setting tend to be highly successful here.
