Job Summary: Performs all phases of laboratory testing as assigned. The Graduate Medical Technologist is an interim position between graduation from an accredited medical technology program and employment as a MT. The GMT should obtain a degree and pass the MT registry within 6 months of employment.

Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited Medical Technology program.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: The Graduate Medical Technologist is an interim position between graduation from an accredited medical technology program and employment as a MT. The GMT should obtain a degree and pass the MT registry within 6 months of employment.

Work Experience: 0 - 6 months related experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Adequate keyboarding skills to use the computer efficiently. Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills. Ability to organize work in an effective and efficient manner. Ability to be detail oriented in the examination of clinical and numerical data.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Performs testing according to established procedures. Receives and processes specimens, components and/or requisitions. Reports accurate test results. Performs quality control, equipment maintenance and instrument calibration under supervision. Functions as a float in more than one laboratory department (if applicable).

Decision Making: Independent judgment in planning sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field.

Working Relationships: Works with internal customers via telephone or face to face interaction. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff.
