The Support Associate provides end-to-end service to consumables customers, from initial inquiry through order delivery. The primary objective is to re-engage and reactivate former or lost customers through outbound calls, emails, and cold calls, restoring them to regular purchasing patterns. This role manages a broad catalog of over 4,000 products and requires a customer-focused, sales-oriented professional who can handle inquiries, process quotes and orders, support logistics, and maintain accurate customer records while contributing to the organization's growth.
Responsibilities
Provide responsive, professional service to consumables customers from initial inquiry through order delivery.
Conduct outbound calls, emails, and cold calls to re-engage lost customers and reactivate former clients into regular buying patterns.
Handle a product portfolio of over 4,000 items, supporting customers in selecting appropriate products and solutions.
Respond promptly to customer inquiries regarding products, pricing, availability, and order status.
Perform inventory lookups to confirm product availability and provide accurate information to customers.
Prepare and process quotes and sales orders accurately and in a timely manner.
Support material pricing activities, ensuring that pricing information is current and correctly applied to quotes and orders.
Coordinate with logistics to support order fulfillment, shipping, and delivery requirements.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date customer information and transaction details in relevant systems and databases.
Prepare routine paperwork and maintain complete documentation for all transactions and customer interactions.
Maintain regular contact with assigned customers to build relationships and encourage repeat business.
Use Microsoft Office and SAP to enter, track, and update customer, order, and inventory data.
Apply simple arithmetic to pricing, quantities, and order calculations as part of daily tasks.
Support quality and safety standards in all aspects of work, including documentation and communication.
Demonstrate calm, professional communication under pressure and when handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
Exercise sound judgment and rational decision-making when resolving customer issues or escalations.
Provide logistics support and, where applicable, apply knowledge of postal and commercial shipping methods.
Contribute to a supportive team culture in an office and warehouse environment, collaborating with colleagues to meet customer needs.
Maintain consistent database updates and follow-up activities to ensure accurate records and strong customer follow-through.
Essential Skills
Proven customer service experience with a friendly, persuasive, and professional approach.
Inside sales or telesales experience, including cold calling and reactivating lost or inactive customers.
Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to build and maintain positive customer relationships.
Customer service-oriented mindset with a focus on retention and reactivation of clients.
Basic PC and keyboard skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Experience using SAP or similar ERP/CRM systems for order entry and customer data management.
Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations for pricing, quantities, and order totals.
Experience with inventory lookup, quote and order processing, and material pricing.
Ability to support logistics processes related to order fulfillment and shipping.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to prepare routine paperwork and maintain transaction documentation.
Ability to maintain accurate and current customer records and database updates.
Capacity to remain calm under pressure and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
Good judgment and rational decision-making when addressing customer needs and resolving issues.
Ability to maintain quality and safety standards in daily work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of postal and commercial shipping methods is preferred.
Experience in an inside sales, outbound calling, or call center environment is highly beneficial.
Comfort working with a large product catalog and learning details of a broad range of consumables.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry, documentation, and follow-up.
Motivation to work toward bonus and commission opportunities if hired into a full-time role.
Flexibility to support coverage needs for colleagues on leave, with the potential for permanent hire.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office and warehouse facility located in New Britain, CT. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You will work in a professional, team-oriented environment that combines office-based customer interaction and administrative work with close collaboration with warehouse and logistics staff. The position involves regular use of computers, Microsoft Office, SAP, and phone systems to manage customer communication, orders, and inventory information. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $31.25/hr.
