Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply. Responsibilities The ASU/OR RN manages patient care by continually utilizing the nursing process throughout the progression of ASU procedural patients. The Peri-op RN is adaptable to function in pre, intra, and post procedural roles and utilizes the most current evidence to direct practice. These roles may include administration of procedural sedation and moderate sedation, complete physician orders, administers medications, apply dressings, monitor vital signs, assist physician during examination procedures and complete nursing assessment pre- and post-procedure. The Peri-op RN must be able to provide and supervise nursing care in one room of the Operating Room Suite, and other areas as directed, utilizing the nursing process. Some duties and responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to: Documents patient data during OR, intra-op phase. Administers medications, including ACLS medications and anticoagulants utilizing all safety precautions. Administers moderate sedation as needed with appropriate patient monitoring, assessment, and documentation. Conducts quality control procedures on equipment. Follows strict adherence to sterile technique, infection control, and safety practices. Transports patients' pre- and post-procedure. Participates in maintaining a clean environment. Participates in the ordering and maintenance of adequate inventory Participates in the ordering and maintenance of adequate supply inventory. Participates in policy and procedure formation, maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission requirements, and significantly contributes to annual proficiency data. Incorporates evidence-based practices in all areas of ASU. Supports and enhances organization's core values. Initiates process improvements when needs are identified. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements, but do not possess the required licensure, may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.) May be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
