Industrial Maintenance Technician 1st & 3rd Shift $28-32/hr!
Job Description
This role focuses on maintaining and improving production and packaging equipment in a food manufacturing facility that produces home-delivered pet food. You will perform both preventative and reactive maintenance to minimize downtime, support safe and high-quality food production, and ensure equipment is properly set up for daily operations. Positions are available on 1st shift and on either split or 3rd shift, with the option to work 3rd shift only if needed.
Responsibilities
Perform preventative maintenance (PM) on production and packaging equipment to ensure reliable and efficient operation.
Carry out reactive maintenance on equipment to quickly resolve breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
Support safe, high-quality food production by ensuring equipment is operating correctly and in compliance with safety standards.
On 1st shift, work almost entirely in a reactive capacity alongside production teams to address equipment issues as they arise.
On 3rd or split shifts, focus on preventative maintenance and equipment setup in preparation for production runs.
Install, wire, and rewire equipment, including working with 480V motors and 3-phase power systems.
Inspect, troubleshoot, assemble, disassemble, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components.
Maintain and troubleshoot conveyor systems to ensure smooth product flow and minimal interruptions.
Perform PLC troubleshooting at the control level, working with engineers who handle all PLC programming.
Use basic mechanical skills to perform tasks such as using wrenches and sockets, replacing O-rings, and operating grease guns.
Apply basic to intermediate measurement skills using tools such as tape measures, digital calipers, micrometers, and feeler gauges.
Read and interpret electrical schematics to diagnose issues and perform safe, accurate repairs.
Work with sensors and actuators to identify faults, make adjustments, and replace components as needed.
Operate various hand tools and electric tools safely and correctly in an industrial environment.
Work from a daily task list with minimal supervision, completing assigned work and taking on additional tasks as required.
Use basic computer skills to enter, update, and close work orders accurately for maintenance record keeping.
Collaborate with production and engineering teams as needed to coordinate maintenance activities and equipment improvements.
Work Saturdays as required, following advance notice typically provided each Thursday.
Essential Skills
2-5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
Strong preventative maintenance experience on production and packaging equipment.
Hands-on experience with 480V motors, including assembly and disassembly.
Industrial electrical knowledge, including 3-phase power and 480V systems.
Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting.
Ability to troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment; engineers handle all PLC programming.
Proficiency in electrical troubleshooting and working with low-voltage and control-voltage circuits.
Basic mechanical skills, including safe and effective use of wrenches, sockets, grease guns, and O-ring replacement.
Familiarity with conveyors and their maintenance and troubleshooting.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Basic to intermediate measurement skills using tape measures, digital calipers, micrometers, and feeler gauges.
Basic computer skills sufficient to enter and close work orders and maintain accurate records.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while following a defined daily routine and task list.
Motivation to take initiative and manage workload effectively, including on shifts with limited oversight.
Ability and willingness to work Saturdays as required, with advance notice.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with PLC systems of any @type, including exposure to PLC troubleshooting and controls.
Experience working with sensors and actuators in an industrial environment.
Ability to interpret blueprints and technical diagrams.
Prior experience in food or packaging manufacturing environments is beneficial.
Comfort working on different shifts, including 1st, split, or 3rd shift, depending on operational needs.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability and safety.
Why Work Here?
You will work in a modern, climate-controlled facility that supports comfort and safety while you perform hands-on technical work. The organization offers a 401(k) plan with employer match, paid time off starting at 10 days, and discounts on the products you help bring to market. Because production operates on a single primary shift, maintenance teams enjoy significant time dedicated to preventative work, which reduces emergency breakdowns and creates a more structured, less reactive workday. The maintenance function is well organized and designed to allow you to work independently without constant supervision, giving you the autonomy to manage your tasks and develop your skills in a supportive environment.
Work Environment
The facility is 100% climate controlled, providing a comfortable and consistent indoor environment, though some storage areas can be cold due to product requirements. Production runs on one main shift, which allows maintenance personnel, especially on 3rd and split shifts, to focus heavily on preventative maintenance and equipment setup rather than constant reactive repairs. You will work with a range of industrial equipment, including production and packaging machinery, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, 480V and 3-phase electrical systems, PLC-controlled equipment, sensors, and actuators. Shifts include 1st shift (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), 3rd shift (9:30 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.), and split shift (2:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.), with occasional Saturday work as required and communicated in advance each week. The environment emphasizes safe operation of tools and equipment, accurate record keeping through computer-based work order systems, and collaborative interaction with production and engineering teams while still allowing for independent, focused work.
