Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Interventional Radiology (IR) Advanced Practice Provider (APP). The IR APP will deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, including consultation, peri-procedural evaluation, and longitudinal patient management. This role combines inpatient rounding, outpatient clinic care, and image-guided procedures, functioning within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Department/division specs
· Practice alongside nine Interventional Radiology physicians and four fellow APPs

Duties & Responsibilities:
· 4, 10-hour shifts/week
· Hybrid inpatient, outpatient, and procedural role
· Dedicated weekly clinic sessions (including Rush Oak Park Hospital)
· Image-guided and clinic-based procedures
· Pod model with assigned physician and nurse
· Reporting directly to the Interventional Radiology Department Administrator
Key Responsibilities:
Inpatient & Procedural Care
· Perform daily inpatient rounding on assigned Interventional Radiology patients
· Provide follow-up management for patients with IR-placed drains, lines, and feeding tubes
· Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes
· Deliver patient education, discharge planning, and post-procedure care instructions
· Provide cross-coverage for line and drain management during APP absences
· Perform image-guided procedures, including:
· Paracentesis
· Thoracentesis
· Bone marrow and bone lesion biopsies
· Aspirations with or without drainage catheter placement
· Drain checks and removals
· Support peri-procedural evaluation and management of complex patients
· Ensure accurate, timely documentation of all inpatient and procedural encounters
· Maintain procedural competency and adhere to safety and quality standards
· Complete and document comprehensive history and physical examinations, health assessments, and individualized care plans
· Order, perform, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests and procedures within scope of practice
· Prescribe medications and therapies (pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic) as delegated
· Initiate consultations and make appropriate referrals to other healthcare professionals and services
· Ensure clear, concise, and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
Outpatient Clinic
· Maintain dedicated weekly clinic sessions (including Rush Oak Park Hospital)
· Practice within a pod model alongside an assigned physician and nurse
· Conduct follow-up visits for IR patients, including those with drains and feeding tubes
· Perform clinic-based procedures as appropriate
· Manage patient communication, including:
· Post-procedure concerns
· Drain and line care questions
· Coordination of follow-up care
· Provide comprehensive patient education on self-care and post-procedure management
· Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure continuity of care and patient satisfaction
· Support efficient clinic operations and timely patient throughput
Preferred Qualifications:
· Applicants with previous Advanced Practice Provider experience preferred, not required. Relevant RN experience may be considered.
· APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification.
Position Requirements:
Nurse Practitioner:
Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
Master of Science in Nursing or Doctorate of Nursing practice with clinical specialty appropriate to position
Current certification by American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP)
CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications
Physician Assistant:
Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will promote collaboration between multiple disciplines to ensure cost effective and quality patient care. Rush offers competitive total compensation that includes base pay, benefits, and other incentive programs for our employees. The total pay range shown reflects the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, specialty; relevant experience and training; and other business and organizational factors. This total pay range is for a full-time, 1.0 FTE employee, and includes any incentive payments that may be applicable to this role. Additional compensation may include premium pay rates, sign-on bonuses, and relocation allowances. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay Range: $124,610 - $175,000
