This role supports foundation waterproofing projects on commercial and new construction job sites. You will work with spray-applied waterproofing systems and dimple board applications, move materials to and from the worksite, and use hand tools and shovels to move dirt and dig trenches. The position is physically demanding but does not require advanced trade skills, making it a strong fit for candidates with general construction, landscaping, farming, or military experience who enjoy outdoor, hands-on work.
Responsibilities
Assist with foundation waterproofing on commercial and new construction projects using systems such as Dow Styrofoam Board, HouseGuard Waterproofing System, and Delta MS Foundation Waterproofing Membrane.
Move materials, tools, and equipment to and from the worksite throughout the day.
Use shovels and hand tools to move dirt, dig trenches, and prepare foundations and surrounding areas for waterproofing.
Operate basic power tools safely and effectively as needed for construction and waterproofing tasks.
Perform general construction labor, including site cleanup, material handling, and supporting carpentry and concrete work related to waterproofing.
Read and use a tape measure accurately to support layout and installation tasks.
Work effectively as part of a small crew of 1-3 people, following directions and supporting team members on site.
Travel from the shop or meeting point to various job sites, typically within approximately 30 miles of Dane County, with occasional work between the Madison and Milwaukee areas.
Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and maintain productivity and safety standards.
Lift and carry materials weighing up to 70 pounds repeatedly during the workday.
Maintain excellent attendance, arrive on time each day, and reliably complete scheduled shifts.
Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment at all times on site.
Essential Skills
At least 6 months of construction experience, with the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to perform physically demanding labor, including lifting up to 70 pounds on a regular basis.
Experience using hand tools and power tools safely in a construction or similar environment.
Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
General labor experience in construction, concrete, carpentry, waterproofing, or related fields.
Valid driver's license.
Reliable attendance and punctuality, with a strong track record of showing up on time and ready to work.
Ability to pass a 5-panel drug test.
Comfort working outdoors approximately 90% of the time on uninhabited new construction job sites.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Prior experience with foundation waterproofing systems such as Dow Styrofoam Board, HouseGuard Waterproofing System, or Delta MS Foundation Waterproofing Membrane is a plus.
Experience in concrete work, carpentry, or general construction labor is beneficial.
Comfort working in small teams of 1-3 people and following direction from field leads.
Willingness to travel to job sites primarily within approximately 30 miles of Dane County, with occasional travel between Madison and Milwaukee as needed.
Why Work Here?
You join a tight-knit field team where your contribution is visible every day and your reliability is genuinely appreciated. The work offers steady hours throughout the year, with fuller weeks from spring through fall and consistent winter schedules, supporting predictable income and routine. You gain hands-on experience with specialized waterproofing systems and construction practices, building skills that can support long-term growth in the trades. The environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and respect on job sites, giving you the chance to work outdoors, stay active, and take pride in tangible results at the end of each project.
Work Environment
You work primarily on commercial construction and new-build job sites that are 100% uninhabited, spending about 90% of your time outdoors. Typical hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility to start as early as 6:00 AM and work as late as 5:00 PM when needed, generally totaling 40-45 hours per week in the spring to fall season and 36-40 hours per week in the winter. You typically meet at the shop or a designated location in the morning and then travel to job sites, usually within about 30 miles of Dane County, with occasional projects between the Madison and Milwaukee areas. You work in small crews of 1-3 people, using hand tools, power tools, and basic construction equipment. The dress code requires you to provide your own leather work boots, high-visibility shirts, hard hat, safety glasses, and durable work pants such as jeans. You are expected to bring basic hand tools and a tool belt, and you must consistently wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including hard hat and high-visibility shirt, while on site. The role involves working in all weather conditions, making it well suited for individuals who prefer active, outdoor work in a construction setting.
