Description We are looking for a highly skilled Staff Accountant to join our team on a contract basis in Christine, Texas. This position plays a crucial role in supporting financial operations, tax compliance, and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in cooperative accounting practices, advanced Excel proficiency, and prior experience with Form 990 preparation or review.

Responsibilities:

Review financial statements to ensure accuracy and alignment with Form 990 reporting requirements.

Assist with the preparation and verification of Form 990 for an Electric Cooperative, ensuring compliance with regulations.

Validate member revenues, patronage capital, margins, and distributions specific to cooperative operations.

Audit compensation, benefits, and disclosures for officers, directors, and key employees to confirm compliance.

Ensure proper reporting of governance practices, board structure, and conflict-of-interest disclosures.

Analyze grants, capital credits, debt schedules, and regulatory disclosures for accuracy.

Coordinate with auditors, tax advisors, and leadership to address and resolve discrepancies.

Prepare monthly journal entries and support general ledger postings for month-end close processes.

Perform bank reconciliations across multiple retail locations and ensure alignment with centralized accounts.

Reconcile credit card transactions, processing fees, and cash/check payments to designated banking accounts. Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

Proven experience in Form 990 review or preparation is strongly preferred.

Familiarity with nonprofit, cooperative, utility, or retail accounting practices is a plus.

Advanced proficiency in Excel is essential.

Exceptional attention to detail and strong reconciliation skills are required.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Must be willing to work fully on-site in Christine, Texas, and commute consistently.

Immediate availability to start is preferred.
