Niagara Falls. City of Niagara Falls. Maintenance Worker - 3. $18.14 - $24.93/hour. Temporary.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: In the Public Works Department:

Supervises and works along with crews to:

Set up grade lines;

Replace and shape curb stone at proper level;

Rake hot asphalt to provide uniform level;

Direct operations at refuse dump;

Direct and lead crews to perform snow removal activities;

Direct and lead crews in sidewalk construction and repair;

Direct and lead the work of Traffic Control Maintenance Helpers;

Fabricate all @types of traffic control signs;

Operate pavement marking machine;

Install traffic control signs and help with the installation and repairs of traffic signals when necessary;

Setup and operate the asphalt zipper in the milling of City streets and setup and run the large and small paver.

KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good knowledge of the materials, equipment and methods used in the various maintenance and

construction operations;

Good knowledge of safety hazards common to the work involved;

Skill in the use of hand and power tools and specialized equipment used in assigned department;

Ability to interpret prints and sketches; ability to write short intelligible memos concerning job;

Ability to complete time sheets, work orders and other necessary forms;

Ability to use independent judgment for implementing and completing work in absence of superior;

Ability to supervise others;

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER (A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three (3) years experience in the specified @type of work to which the employee is to be assigned; OR (B) Any equivalent combination of specified experience and training as defined in (A) which provide the required knowledge. SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Candidates must possess a New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and maintain throughout employment
