Summary The Nursing Service is recruiting for a Registered Nurse Clinical Coordinator in Endoscopy. This RN position is critical to meet the projected workload demands of the Nursing Relationship-Based Care model for the Orthopedic Department within the Central Virginia VA Health Care System located at the Richmond, Virginia VA Medical Center Facility. Responsibilities Endoscopy Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses and health/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the procedural setting. This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. Duties for this position may include but are not limited to the following: Assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. Delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures including both inpatients and outpatients. Assesses the patients physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care. Demonstrate leadership by active participation in unit Performance Improvement (PI) projects, unit/hospital committees, support charge nurse, and unit champion to new procedures. Responsible for monitoring patients undergoing Moderate Sedation and Monitored Anesthesia Care. Knowledge/experience of Moderate sedation agents and reversal drugs Documents accurately, appropriately as required by policies and procedures Perform proper labeling and preparation of specimens Must demonstrate the ability to withstand the physical and mental stress/ strain of a fast paced unit Prepares the patient for endoscopic procedures: correct patient/procedure, obtains vital signs, interviews the patient(history and physical), point of care testing, communicate to anesthesia team and Endoscopy doctors in a concise manner. Assists the endoscopy doctor with endoscopy procedures within the Nursing scope of practice Knowledge of endoscopy instruments and equipment to include the use, handling, and cleaning Knowledge of endoscopy procedures, techniques, symptoms and complications of endoscopy, anesthesia, or conscious sedation and consequent nursing interventions Recovers the patient post -procedure per facility policy BLS/ACLS certification is required for this position and can be obtained upon hire. Demonstrates professional communication and conduct Work collaboratively with all levels of health care professional and support to facilitate positive patient care outcomes Compliance with various Isolation precautions, Personal Protective Equipment(PPE), and Infection Control guidelines Skills in time management, priority setting, assessment and urgent intervention are essential Patient, Family, and/or caregiver education and support. Qualifications Basic Requirements: English Language Proficiency. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a master's level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license, the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
