We are seeking a Controller to lead our Finance & Accounting department. This is a leadership role where the Controller's primary responsibility is building and running a coordinated, high-performing F&A team - setting direction, documenting processes, developing staff, identifying efficiencies with modern tooling, and ensuring the department scales with the company.
Responsibilities
Team leadership and development
Lead, develop, and manage a team of F&A staff covering billing, payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting across multiple legal entities
Establish clear ownership and accountability for each functional area within the department, eliminating single points of failure while maintaining audit-proof separation of duties
Build a well-documented, cross-trained team where processes are repeatable and institutional knowledge is shared
Identify development opportunities for each team member and invest in their growth
Foster a collaborative, organized, and transparent team culture aligned with nSI's broader values
Monthly close and billing operations
Own the monthly close calendar - a sequenced, documented process that the team executes reliably under your leadership
Drive billing performance across multiple monthly invoices (CPFF, T&M, and FFP contract @types) and legal entities with a focus on timely submission and accuracy
Ensure correct and timely invoicing through Unanet: labor cost posting, direct cost entry, expense coding, WAWF submission, and contract data integrity
Oversee the payroll cycle in ADP with appropriate segregation of duties and on-time processing
Own accounts payable, month-end journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and GL period close
Maintain the indirect rate structure and produce the monthly Schedule of Indirect Expenses (SIE)
Cross-functional coordination
Partner with Program Control on contract data integrity: modifications, billing rates, CLIN ceilings, and cost data accuracy
Coordinate with Contracts to ensure timely modification processing, billing rate updates, and invoice compliance
Establish and maintain clear standards for upstream inputs that F&A depends on - timecard approvals, expense submissions, and contract data - working collaboratively with division leads and program managers
Serve as a constructive financial partner to the operations and program management teams
Reporting and management visibility
Produce a timely monthly financial reporting packages by legal entity: P&L by division, balance sheet, cash flow statements, DSO, and indirect rate tracking
Ensure program managers have timely, self-service access to contract cost data through Unanet and Datalake dashboards
Provide the VP, CEO, and executive team with clear, actionable financial insight - translating data into decisions
Maintain and continuously update an integrated 3-Statement Model of the corporation to forecast cashflow, EBITDA, and key financial metrics
Continuously evaluate departmental processes and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and scalability as the company grows
Compliance and audit readiness
Maintain DCAA-compliant accounting practices: timekeeping integrity, cost allowability, indirect rate documentation, and Internal Control Documents (ICDs)
Lead preparation for DCAA audits and coordinate with external GovCon accounting advisors as needed
Oversee the annual Incurred Cost Submission (ICS), whether prepared internally or with external support
Support the annual ESOP third-party audit and company valuation data calls
Basic qualifications
7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including at least 2 years managing a team with direct reports
Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold accountable a finance or accounting team
Working knowledge of government contracting finance: FAR/DFARS cost principles, DCAA compliance, indirect rate structures, and GovCon billing across CPFF, T&M, and FFP contract @types
Strong organizational and communication skills - able to manage competing priorities, document processes clearly, and communicate financial results to non-financial audiences

Preferred qualifications
CPA or equivalent certification
Experience with Unanet GovCon ERP - billing, cost posting, indirect rate configuration, and the monthly close workflow
Familiarity with ADP Workforce Now for payroll processing
Experience in an ESOP-owned company
