You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment of air contamination, noise and other physical stressors as well as the quantitative assessment of ventilation systems. Maintain, calibrate and select appropriate equipment and media and conduct or oversee sampling. You will prepare written workplace monitoring plans and track their completion, updating the plans as necessary. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science that was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. (Note - Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable) OR possess a Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The degree was accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time my degree was obtained. In addition to the Basic Requirements for the position, your resume must also demonstrate For GS-12: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs. Investigating health problems to determine probable cause and recommend measures to minimize health hazards. Devising control measures, including ventilation, shielding, material substitution, change in work procedures, isolation, education and personal protective devices and planning and carrying out industrial hygiene inspections and surveys. For GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Applying industrial hygiene concepts, principles, and practices carrying out all industrial hygiene programs. Analyzing and evaluating occupational health hazards to include those for which the nature and extent of hazards is not completely understood. Assisting in devising control measures for ventilation, shielding, material, substitution, and change in work procedures and drafting industrial hygiene policy and guidance for occupational health and safety professionals.
