Qualifications: Minimum QualificationsEducation:Graduation from an accredited law school with a LL.B. or J.D. degree.Experience:Three (3) or more full-time experience as a practicing attorney.Preferred QualificationsPreferred Experience:and#8226; Commercial litigationand#8226; Tax litigationand#8226; Securities and financial litigationand#8226; Business lawand#8226; Licensed and experience working as a certified public accountant (CPA)Licenses and CertificationsLicense in good standing to practice law in the State of Texas.In this role you will:and#8226; Reviews case file, which includes audit package or non-audit worksheets. Identifies taxpayerand#8217;s contentions, relevant facts, and available records. Research law, policy, and the Comptrollerand#8217;s tax system to address the contentions and to obtain additional information relevant to the case. Works with taxpayers, auditors, and other agency personnel to resolve hearings through dismissal. Prepares motions to dismiss agreements between the taxpayer and the agency. Reviews and confirms figures prepared for the Comptrollerand#8217;s Decision.and#8226; Prepares filings in the hearing including the position letter, response to reply, discovery, discovery responses, SOAH motions and briefs, exceptions and replies, motions for rehearing and replies to motions for rehearing, and other pleadings as the case requires. Reviews replies to position letters and other documents submitted by a taxpayer in support of taxpayer contentions. Makes determinations based on review of documents. Coordinates insolvency reviews. Prepares record for written submission hearings at SOAH. Represents agency in oral hearings at SOAH.and#8226; Communicates with other agency divisions to address and resolve issues that may be raised in administrative hearings. Prepares and delivers presentations to agency personnel and/or the public to educate them on taxability or procedural issues of tax administration.
