Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Salary Range: $47.87 - $65.99

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Laboratory Director and Laboratory Manager

Perform and document testing and associated quality control and preventative maintenance activities in Bacteriology.

Has responsibility for technical supervision of specifically assigned area(s) with regard to maintaining inventory control, assisting in compliance with accreditation standards, training new employees, and submitting quality control reports for review.

Perform monthly Quality Assurance review and report for their specialty area

Should be available for consultation during regulatory surveys for their designated specialty area

Develop, review and maintain training and competency documents for their designated specialty area(s); assist technical staff with expertise in their designated area(s)

Develop, review and maintain technical documents for their specialty area(s); assist technical staff with procedural expertise in their designated area(s)

Perform research for new test development and implementation for their designated specialty area(s)

Participate in team activities and quality improvement; ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner.

Demonstrate performance consistent with the mission, philosophy and goals of the organization.

Remain flexible to changing systems.

Treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.

Interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group.

Fulfill other related responsibilities as assigned.

Must work well under stress or tight deadlines.

Must work well with supervisors, co-workers, patients/residents, family members and visitors

Essential Functions:

The ability to have the fine motor control skills to perform the duties of the position.

Position Qualifications:

Education: Any combination of training, education, and work experience which is deemed adequate by the State of California for issuance of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician license.

Experience: Minimum 2 years work experience in their designated area(s) which demonstrates the ability to satisfactorily perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.

Licensure: Must possess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist.

Skills/Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, hospital and medical staff. Ability to cope with stressful situations on a regular basis. Ability to work without close supervision. Ability to work rapidly while maintaining quality. Ability to prioritize activities as appropriate. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
