Addison Central School District seeks a 12-month Typist / Administrative Assistant, with these skills, abilities, and personal characteristics:

Working knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment;

Working knowledge of business arithmetic and English;

Ability to perform keyboarding accurately at an acceptable rate of speed;

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions;

Ability to get along well with others;

Ability to write legibly;

Mental alertness; Neatness; Accuracy; Tact and courtesy; and

Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Preference is for candidates who have previous school office experience.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES

Performs keyboarding, sorts, indexes, and files mail, requisitions, and other material;

Pulls material from files, makes simple file searches, and maintains charge-out records;

Issues and records applications, licenses, and permits;

Collects fees and accounts for monies received;

Performs keyboarding for records, reports, payroll data, and communications and checks for clerical accuracy, completeness, and proper extension;

Types materials from copy, rough draft, dictating machine tapes, and other detailed instruction;

Answers telephone and gives out routine information;

Greets visitors to the department/unit, ascertains their business, and either provides information or refers to more appropriate personnel;

Operates a variety of office machines including photocopiers, calculators, computers, and fax machines;

Makes arithmetical computations, compiles information, and performs keyboarding for simple statistical reports; and

Other related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.

Job Qualifications

Currently holding or eligible to hold a full-time position within Steuben County under the Civil Service title of Typist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Either:

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma which shall have included or been supplemented by courses in office practice and keyboarding; or

One year of paid full time or equivalent part time clerical experience, that shall have included the full time or substantial part time use of keyboarding equipment.
