Position Summary
The Continuous Improvement (CI) Coordinator supports the site's ongoing journey toward operational excellence by assisting in the execution of continuous improvement initiatives, training, data analysis, and project facilitation. Reporting to the Site Continuous Improvement Manager (with dotted-line alignment to the Regional CI Manager), this position plays a key role in building a culture of continuous improvement by supporting teams, tracking results, and promoting engagement in problem-solving activities.
The CI Coordinator partners closely with operations, engineering, and leadership teams to identify waste, standardize processes, and support the implementation of tools and systems that enhance performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Essential Functions
Support and coordinate CI projects and events (Kaizen, 5S, TPM, Standard Work, SMED, Root Cause Analysis, Value Stream Mapping) in collaboration with site teams.
Facilitate small improvement workshops and problem-solving sessions to identify inefficiencies and implement sustainable solutions.
Collect, analyze, and report performance data to monitor CI progress, identify trends, and support decision-making.
Assist with training and coaching of team members and leaders on CI principles, tools, and methodologies.
Develop and maintain visual management systems (dashboards, performance boards, CI tracking tools) that support communication, transparency, and accountability.
Partner with functional teams (operations, quality, maintenance, materials) to align process improvements with site goals and customer expectations.
Support the sustainment of 5S and workplace organization by helping teams implement and audit standards.
Act as a liaison between operations, support functions, and leadership to ensure obstacles are escalated and resolved promptly.
Promote cultural transformation by modeling continuous improvement behaviors and encouraging engagement at all levels of the organization.
Assist in the preparation and presentation of progress updates to site and regional leadership.
Other Key Responsibilities
Assist in the development of standard work and leader standard work documentation.
Contribute to the site's CI communications plan by sharing success stories and lessons learned.
Support efforts to integrate CI thinking into daily management systems and tiered meetings.
Identify opportunities for employee skill development and recommend appropriate training.
Help track and sustain improvements post-implementation.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or Associate degree with 3+ years of related experience, or 5+ years of experience in continuous improvement, operations, or manufacturing.
Working knowledge of Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, PDCA, DMAIC, Standard Work).
Demonstrated ability to analyze data and develop insights to support decision-making.
Strong facilitation, organizational, and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across all levels.
Proven capability to influence and motivate others without formal authority.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and experience with data visualization tools.
Ability to travel domestically up to 20%.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification or formal training in Continuous Improvement, Lean, or Six Sigma methodologies.
Experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Knowledge of the Shingo Model or other operational excellence frameworks.
Experience leading small improvement teams or supporting CI initiatives across departments.
Familiarity with project management and Agile or iterative improvement methods.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts
The CI Coordinator works primarily within a manufacturing environment, regularly walking the production floor to observe processes, gather data, and engage with teams. Exposure to typical shop hazards such as noise, fumes, and dust may occur, and use of proper PPE is required. The role requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting of materials up to 40 pounds. The incumbent must be comfortable working across different production areas, some accessible only by stairs.
