Responsibilities
The Senior Equipment Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, integration, and optimization of advanced manufacturing systems for medical devices. This role has a strong emphasis on automation, pneumatic systems, electronic controls, and equipment integration. The engineer will drive technical solutions that improve throughput, reliability, and compliance while ensuring robust, validated processes in a regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design and development of automated manufacturing equipment and production lines
Specify, design, and troubleshoot pneumatic systems including regulators, valves, actuators, manifolds, and vacuum systems
Develop and integrate electronic control systems including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and motion control systems
Program and debug PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent) and configure industrial networks (Ethernet/IP, PROFINET)
Design control architectures including I/O mapping, safety circuits, and interlock systems
Support robotics integration including pick-and-place systems, vision-guided automation, and collaborative robots
Lead equipment FAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning activities
Develop and execute equipment and process validation (IQ, OQ, PQ) for automated systems
Drive root cause analysis and troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical and automation issues
Partner with vendors and integrators to develop custom automation solutions
Support new product introduction with scalable and automated manufacturing solutions
Implement and sustain preventive maintenance strategies for automated equipment
Ensure compliance with FDA, ISO 13485, and GMP requirements for automated systems
Develop detailed technical documentation including electrical schematics, pneumatic diagrams, and control narratives
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Hands-on experience with automation equipment design, build, and troubleshooting
8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in a regulated industry
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field required
Master's degree preferred
Proven experience with pneumatic and electronic control systems in production environments
Strong experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley RS Logix / Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal)
HMI development and SCADA integration
Industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, PROFINET)
Motion control systems including servo motors, stepper systems, and drives
Machine safety design including safety relays, light curtains, interlocks, and risk assessments
Pneumatics and Fluid Systems
Design and optimization of pneumatic circuits and control systems
Selection and sizing of cylinders, valves, regulators, and vacuum components
Understanding of pressure, flow, and timing control in automated sequences
Experience troubleshooting leaks, response delays, and system inefficiencies
Electrical Systems
Ability to read and develop electrical schematics and panel layouts
Experience with sensors (photoelectric, inductive, capacitive), actuators, and signal conditioning
Knowledge of power distribution, grounding, and control panel design
Automation Equipment
Integration of robotics, vision systems, and automated inspection systems
Experience with conveyor systems, feeders, and high-speed assembly equipment
Familiarity with machine builders and custom automation vendors
Data and Process Control
Statistical analysis tools (SPC, DOE, Minitab)
Data acquisition and equipment performance monitoring (OEE)
Soft Skills
Strong technical leadership and problem-solving capability
Ability to lead cross-functional technical discussions with R&D, Quality, and Operations
Effective communication with vendors and system integrators
Ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously
Preferred Qualifications
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt
Experience with Vision Systems (Keyence, Cognex)
Experience with MES integration and Industry 4.0 technologies
Background in cleanroom or high-precision medical device manufacturing
Work Environment
Combination of office, lab, and manufacturing floor environment
Hands-on work with automated equipment, electrical panels, and pneumatic systems

Pay / Compensation
The expected pre-tax pay rate for this position is $94,600 - $127,600 per year. Actual pay may fluctuate outside of the listed range depending on skills, education, experience, job-related knowledge and location.
US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
