The Accounting Specialist is responsible for handling a variety of accounting tasks, ensuring accuracy in financial records, and supporting the Finance Department with day-to-day operations. This role involves processing transactions, reconciling accounts, and assisting with financial reporting.
Starting Hourly Range: $29.27 - $30.24/hour DOE
This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
What you will do
Process accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) transactions, including invoicing, payments, and collections.
Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and general ledger accounts.
Maintain accurate financial records and documentation for audits and compliance.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
Prepare journal entries and ensure proper classification of financial data.
Support payroll processing and reconciliations as needed.
Assist with preparing financial and management costs reports.
Assist with audits by providing support, preparing schedules, and answering questions.
Communicate with vendors, customers, stakeholders or process owners as necessary to advise and address issues or support internal operations.
Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
Identify discrepancies and work to resolve them in a timely manner.
Serve as back-up for other accounting positions as needed.
Learn, adopt, and apply safety programs.
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent Required
2 years of job-related experience. Related education may be substituted for experience on a 2:1 ratio (e.g. 2 months of education equals 1 month of experience). Required
