Job Title: Greenhouse Maintenance & Research Technician (Entry-Level) Job Description

This position is perfect for individuals who enjoy hands-on work, learning new skills, and working with plants and equipment. As a Greenhouse Maintenance & Research Technician, you will support daily greenhouse operations by caring for crops and assisting with basic equipment maintenance. You will work with row crops such as canola, corn, cotton, and soybeans in greenhouses and growth chambers, learning how plant growth, environmental controls, and facility systems work together.

Responsibilities

Assist with daily plant care tasks including sowing, sampling, transplanting, watering, harvesting, discarding plant material, and seed processing.

Monitor plant health and environmental conditions while learning standard greenhouse procedures.

Help maintain clean and organized workspaces to support safe and efficient operations.

Work hands-on with row crops through all growth stages.

Assist with basic troubleshooting of greenhouse and growth chamber equipment.

Support preventive maintenance tasks and learn how environmental control systems operate.

Report equipment or environmental issues to the supervisor promptly.

Learn proper care and use of tools and follow established safety procedures.

Essential Skills

0-4 years of experience in greenhouse work, plant care, maintenance, or related areas.

Interest in plant science, greenhouse production, agriculture, or technical systems.

Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Associates or Bachelors degree in Agronomy, Biology, Horticulture, Plant Science, Engineering Technology, or related life sciences field.

Equivalent experience or training will be considered, such as greenhouse work, technical trades, agricultural experience, or similar hands-on roles.

Work Environment

Work includes standing for extended periods and working in warm greenhouse conditions, especially during summer months. Tasks vary daily, providing exposure to many aspects of greenhouse research operations. Rotational weekend or holiday work may be required, typically for plant watering or checks. Dress code is casual, with attire suitable for working in a greenhouse environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Jerseyville, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
