Project Overview:
Louisiana LNG is located approximately 11 miles southwest of Lake Charles, Louisiana. The project includes a mid-scale, mixed-refrigerant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production and export facility on the west side of the Calcasieu River. There are five identical process plants. Each process plant consists of one gas pre-treatment unit, one condensate stabilization unit, and four Chart heavy hydrocarbon (HHC) removal and liquefaction groups. The facility will include associated utilities, refrigerant storage, three 235,000m3 full-containment LNG storage tanks, and three marine berths.
Job Summary:
The Construction Equipment Superintendent is responsible for supervising and directing operations within the equipment department. Supervises and directs craft activities, subordinate supervisors and others, as assigned. Ensures all construction equipment is maintained & fueled properly, is safe to operate and within schedules and budgets. Performs general functions inherent in all supervisory shop positions. #LI-TH1
Major Responsibilities:
Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to their department. This includes preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
Ensure that all site services (Indirects) operations comply with applicable Bechtel procedures, OSHA standards, and federal, state, county, and local regulations, customer and project-specific requirements.
Engages in Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and signing FLHA cards for rigging activities.
Actively participates in scheduled safety meetings and prestart safety meetings.
Ensures that assigned personnel are properly qualified for their task; that they are trained, competent and aware of their responsibilities, and are complying with all applicable standards, requirements, and safe practices.
Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches.
Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy.
Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
Responsible for maintenance of all fleet equipment and enforces service work orders are completed accurately.
Responsible for all equipment fueling activities. Have the ability to troubleshoot, direct, and assist with repairs of fleet equipment.
Additional Responsibilities:
Determines workforce requirements. Schedules work to be performed and reviews work accomplished by each craft.
Monitors work activities and ensures the quality of work performed. Approves craft time records using established automated tools.
Orders filters, oil, grease, def, fuel and other consumables as required.
Prepares list of tools and ensures that the crafts have the tools they require to do the job safely and productive.
Audits subcontractors or vendors equipment to ensure compliance with project specific requirements.
Responsible for the implementation of corporate/project policies, procedures and instructions within assigned operations.
Coordinates activities with other disciplines and vendor resident representatives. Performs employee reviews and identifies training and development opportunities for subordinate personnel.
Ensures that local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with.
Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of a single or multi-discipline construction or engineering operation. Knowledge of the Six Sigma program tools and methodologies, and of supervisory functions relating to field activities. Knowledge of the use of subcontracts, and the contractor and subcontractor's responsibilities contained in subcontract documents. Experience working with, supervising and administering subcontractors and/or Direct Hire union workforce.
Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications. An understanding of the application and requirements of Project Environmental, Safety & Health. Demonstrated leadership in a team-based environment.
Experience supporting or managing large and diverse construction equipment fleets on major construction or industrial projects is highly valued. Experience operating in high-utilization construction environments where equipment availability, preventative maintenance, and rapid repair coordination are critical to maintaining construction schedules is also preferred.
Experience managing construction equipment fleets and associated maintenance programs
Familiarity with major OEM equipment manufacturers (e.g., CAT, Komatsu, JLG, Genie, etc.)
Working knowledge of crane operations and lifting equipment
Experience utilizing fleet management or equipment tracking systems
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.).
