Sensata Technologies is looking for a Senior Director, Engineering for its 700M+ Industrial Business Unit. Primary responsibilities include overall leadership, management of business processes and design, resource planning (people, capital and expenses), competitor benchmark, and M&A capabilities assessment and integration. This person will be responsible for all new product development and sustaining engineering for the Industrial business.
The ideal candidate has a strong background in the Industrial space with responsibilities in a large global engineering team reaching from mechanical and electrical designs to software layer in order to deliver full sub-system capabilities. Operationally, he/she will have strong business acumen in competitive technologies analysis, quality and return on investment. He/She needs to have experience in change management to deliver improved performance and use critical thinking to prioritize business decisions.
In addition, he/she will need to have a forward-looking perspective and should be constantly seeking to drive innovation and improvements for the future.
Success in this position requires good market trends understanding, good team-building and influencing skills; both in working with internal teams, external teams and customers. Often times this position may require keen negotiations with internal and external teams to develop a win-win situation for the business and customers. This position reports to the Executive Vice President and President of Industrials.
Job Description
Work directly with Sales/Marketing/Business development teams to identify engineering opportunities that will increase global revenue via custom solutions and integrations
Develop a technology roadmap including a path toward sub-systems with software layer
Benchmarking of competitors' products and strategy
Drive quality within sustaining engineering and new product development
Participate in M&A assessment and due diligence as well as integration of the acquired teams
Work as part of senior leadership team in making decisions related to operations, priority development, and financial performance and customer scorecards
Oversee Program Reviews- evaluate design solutions from the team, concept to full production
Drive New Business Opportunity's (NBO) & New Product Development (NPD) from an engineering excellence standpoint: management of the NPD process for new products, modifications of existing products for quality, cost or continuity of supply and product test processes
Drive strategy & execution based on customer requirements and expectations
Drive actions and schedules needed to support those program expectations which?will require working with cross-functional teams including Process engineering, Marketing, the Program Management Team and the Manufacturing sites
Annual planning: short term and long range plans
Talent Management: recruitment, development and retention of top talent. Must possess strengths in effectively evaluating team member's abilities, coaching, mentoring and creating department succession plans
Continue to develop the engineering organization by building effective teams, structures, and processes that can support increase in business scales and complexity
Strong communication, collaboration and team building skills; ability to connect with all levels of the organization
Comfortable working in a global high matrix environment
~20% travel required
Experience/Qualifications:
A university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
BS/MS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred, MBA a plus
Product design and development experience with experience of the software layer and creation of sub-systems
Experience and passion for inspiring and leading design teams
Must be able to successfully manage and motivate global team members?
Demonstrated ability to implement standardized processes and best practices
Ability to work across all functions and levels of an organization
Excellent communication skills
Experience with managing projects and client relations
Solid understanding of materials and manufacturing processes

Base Salary Range:
$220,400.00 - $303,050.00
