Summary This position is located in the Fleet Medicine Directorate, Public Health Department in the Industrial Hygiene Division, located at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC), North Chicago, Illinois; a1c complexity facility. Lovell FHCC is larger than just a single facility, but rather a system of facilities throughout Northeastern Illinois and Wisconsin which provide medical and dental services to U.S. Military Veterans, Recruits, and Active Duty and eligible beneficiaries. Responsibilities MAJOR DUTIES Automated Information Systems Security: In the performance of official duties, the employee has regular access to printed and electronic files containing sensitive information, which must be protected under the provision of the Privacy Act of 1974, the HIP AA implementation, effective April 14, 2003 and other applicable laws and regulations. The employee is responsible for (1) protecting that information from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion, and (2) following applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set forth in the hospital's Automated Information Systems Users Agreement which the employee signs. Information Security and Confidentiality: Manages information security within areas of responsibility to assure that computer system security and confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained, and that employee access to sensitive information is limited only to that which the employee requires to perform their duties. Basic Requirements The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or Certification from the Board for Global EHS Credentialing (formerly American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH)). Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable. Evaluation of Education All science or engineering courses offered in fulfillment of the above requirements must be acceptable for credit toward the completion of a standard 4-year professional curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in science or engineering at an accredited college or university.
