Project Engineer III

Job Description

The Project Engineer III provides advanced technical leadership across new product development, customer facing sustaining engineering, cost and quality improvement initiatives, and cross functional program execution. This role serves as a key technical focal within an integrated engineering team, guiding design efforts, ensuring compliance with customer and regulatory requirements, coordinating development activities, supporting fabrication and testing, and contributing to certification and entry into service. The position also interfaces with suppliers, supports audits, drives process improvements, and represents the organization as a subject matter expert.

Main Responsibilities:

Lead technical execution of new product development programs and ensure alignment with customer requirements and procurement specifications.

Coordinate all phases of development: proposals, hardware design, fabrication support, qualification testing, certification, EIS, and sustaining engineering.

Lead small cross functional teams and manage task delegation across the internal development group.

Ensure designs meet customer, industry, and regulatory standards.

Review, approve, and provide input on engineering drawings, documents, and analytical outputs.

Prepare and deliver technical project status updates for internal stakeholders and customers.

Establish and defend program advantageous technical positions.

Identify and execute cost reduction, quality improvement, and cycle time reduction initiatives.

Interface with suppliers to ensure technical clarity and compliance.

Support or lead internal and external audits (e.g., quality system audits).

Serve as a recognized technical subject matter expert and support new business opportunities and customer relationships.

Facilitate cross functional communication and ensure project transparency.

Understand organizational strategy and identify new business opportunities.

Interpret and decompose customer requirements, including incomplete or evolving requirements.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience):

5+ years of experience in metallic or composite ducting and motion compensator design per ARP 699 or equivalent experience in areas such as:

o ECS, bleed air, or air management systems

o Pneumatic or electromechanical valves

o Heat exchangers

o Turbomachinery

o Fuel tank inerting systems

o Pneumatic wing anti ice systems

o Ram air systems

o High/low pressure pneumatic systems

o Structural design

Experience with aircraft certification requirements (FAA/EASA/other major authorities).

Experience supporting programs from kick off through major milestones (PDR, CDR, PRR, SOF, EIS).

Project management and strong interpersonal/customer facing skills.

Experience delegating work and supervising engineering support personnel.

Experience preparing certification documents (ATP, QTP, QTR, etc.).

Knowledge of sheet metal and/or composite manufacturing processes.

MRB experience with engineering disposition authority.

Test experience per RTCA DO/160 or MIL STD 810.

Experience participating in internal/external audits.

Ability to interpret and support development of 3D models and 2D drawings (ANSI/ASME Y14.5).

Strong understanding of industry specifications (MIL, AN, MS, NAS, ASTM, AMS).

Experience preparing engineering cost estimates for RFQs. - Master's degree (preferred but not required).

Prior subject matter expertise on the listed aerospace subsystems
