About the Department of Natural Resources (DNR):
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources protects, enhances, preserves, and wisely uses natural, cultural, and recreational resources for the benefit of Indiana's citizens through professional leadership, management, and education. The Division of Forestry promotes and practices good stewardship of natural, recreational, and cultural resources on Indiana's public and private forest lands. This stewardship produces continuing benefits, both tangible and intangible, for present and future generations. Some key initiatives of the forestry program include: Urban Forestry, Fire Management, Forest Health, Forest Legacy, and Forestry Education.
Role Overview:
This position will lead Clark State Forest construction projects, with priority on capital projects such as the new main water line installation and campground expansion and improvement projects. The position will work with the existing maintenance position to complete these and other maintenance and construction projects as needed. The two positions manage maintenance needs for the 25,584 acre state forest which contains a large office, two campgrounds, comfort station, fire tower, nine shelters, rec building, three large equipment and vehicle storage buildings, several lakes and boat ramps, three residences, two open bay storage buildings, multiple vault toilets, several playgrounds and picnic areas, and many property signs. The property is currently with one sole maintenance position.
Top 3 skills:
1) 5 years or more in remodeling and new construction
2) ability to read construction blue prints and execute design
3) knowledgeable in basic electrical work and plumbing
Applicants should be able to work independent and with other when assistance is needed.
Position may require working 10-12 hours days when weather conditions allow to maximize good working conditions. Working hours may be adjusted for extreme weather conditions.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Solicit cost estimates or cost proposals.
Estimate costs and work hours for maintenance projects.
Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities
Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements
Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.

What You'll Need for Success:
Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:
Broad knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.
Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.
Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.
This role must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:
Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.
A degree is not required.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.
This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
