Summary This position serves as a Data Center Operations Specialist for the NASA Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Cloud and Computing Service Line at Ames Research Center. This position delivers Data Center Services, including the management and support of on-premises assets, resources, and the physical and virtual infrastructure required to operate enterprise services. In this role, the specialist ensures the reliability, efficiency, and overall effectiveness of Data Center Operations. Responsibilities Deliver data center (DC) and related support services in alignment with requirements and established Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Support the development of a variety of computing needs and collaborate with the CCS Cloud Services team. Oversee Data Center maintenance and operational activities to ensure seamless service delivery. Adhere to security and compliance requirements through accurate asset inventories, virtualization technologies, system upgrades, and capacity planning. Monitor, document, and communicate high severity incidents, ensuring timely and accurate daily reporting. Support incident, request, problem, change, configuration, release, and deployment management activities to drive improvement. Inspect data center facility infrastructure to ensure optimal operating conditions. Coordinate with facilities organizations to verify that maintenance schedules are upheld, and document or report any anomalies, required repairs, or modifications. Support the implementation and effective use of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) tools to improve the enterprise data center infrastructure visibility, control, and operational efficiency. Coordinate the consolidation, migration, and repurposing of services, systems, and assets. Ensures actions taken advance enterprise computing efficiency, enhance service delivery, and align with established optimization objectives. Ensures all enterprise Data Center documentation, processes, and procedures are properly maintained, updated, and controlled. Maintains the Cloud and Computing Services (CCS) Continuity of Operations (COOP) preparedness plan. Serves in Cloud and Computing Services roles such as a service owner, technical expert, Business Relationship Manager, Information System Security Officer, Information System Security Engineer, contract Technical Point of Contact, and project lead. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level. Managing data center sites or facilities, including operation and sustainment of services/solutions; capacity planning, asset management activities, upgrades, and mechanical/electrical infrastructure; Implementing, operating, and maintaining hybrid environments with on-premise, cloud computing, and data storage solutions to meet current and future requirements; Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, such as networking, cybersecurity, mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing specialists, to support data center operations and the management of facility and infrastructure systems.
