Summary The position of Licensed Practical Nurse in Podiatry is located within the Ambulatory Care service line at the Lebanon VAMC. Responsibilities Assigned Duties but not limited to: The LPN/LVN GS-7 is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice. Possesses the knowledge and skills to carry out more specialized patient care activities. This knowledge base includes the use of Veteran care data to initiate active contributions to the Veteran's overall health plan. Knowledgeable of program regulations and performs objectives of the nursing program. Promotes and demonstrates nursing concepts in the Medical Center. Works in collaboration with the Registered Nurse (RN), and or Health Care Provider (HCP). Demonstrates the ability to work independently without the need for readily available supervision and communicates effectively with the Veteran, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff. The incumbent is expected to participate to a greater degree in prioritizing and, as appropriate, modifying Veteran care treatment plans. S/he must also possess the ability to observe more subtle physical and emotional changes in Veterans, exercise sound nursing judgement, and demonstrate appropriate action based on those observations. The LPN must possess the knowledge and skill to promptly recognize potential urgent/emergent Veteran care situations, seek team assistance as appropriate, and effectively intervene to assure the delivery of safe Veteran care. Manages Veteran care problems and deviations using self-direction in accordance with VA Nursing Practice and LPN licensure standards. Maintains knowledge and skills to care for a wide range of Veterans, including those with chronic and acute illness. Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of disease conditions, nursing principles, and standards/practices to coordinate nursing care required in the clinic setting and alter the sequence and/or care delivered to meet individual Veteran's needs. Demonstrates knowledge of Infection Control standards, the applicability of the standards and regulations of Joint Commission, OSHA, and Lebanon VAMC. Provides care, educates veterans and their support people, and documents thoroughly. In addition to responsibilities at the lower grade level, the LPN/LVN is responsible for monitoring the practice of non-licensed nursing and medical staff. Work of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. Individuals in these positions are, to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art and science of practical nursing. Preferred Experience: 2 year outpatient clinic experience, certified LPN nail technician. Specialized certified training focused on the safe trimming of nails for high-risk patients, including those with diabetes, wounds, and vascular insufficiency etc. The position will be required to completion of a nail care complex foot care course after hire if one hasn't been completed already.
