About Richmond State Hospital :
Richmond State Hospital is about the people we serve and the community relationships we have developed, dating back to 1890. Richmond State Hospital is a public behavioral health facility operated by the state of Indiana and one of six state psychiatric hospitals within the Family and Social Services Administration Division of Mental Health and Addiction. As part of a newly integrated system of state psychiatric hospitals, we serve consumers across the state as the Eastern Center of Excellence in Mental Health and Addiction Services.
Nestled in northwestern Richmond, our beautiful campus provides a quiet and peaceful environment. The hospital clinical and medical leadership collaborate with the unit treatment teams to provide the most contemporary and comprehensive care possible.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $37,648.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
Provides advanced administrative support to an agency, department, or facility.
Reviews the organizational structure and functions of assigned program area to recommend changes to promote effectiveness.
Administers staff functions in support of program area.
Aids program administrator in applying agency or department policies and procedures.
Represents program administrator in meetings with representative of other agencies, and interested public to explain and interpret program goals, policies, and procedures.
Prepares, evaluates, and maintains administrative reports, policies, and procedures for different program areas
Collects essential patient referral information and assembles folders for the admissions committee to review. This includes use of an Access database for the DMHA, excel database to report and record information, status of admission decision, and scheduling of admissions with gatekeepers and referring agencies and/or courts.
Prepares admission packets for receiving treatment teams and shares.
Word processing, minute-taking, and database functions with other support staff and other duties as assigned.
Good communication and telephone skills are essential as this position represents the hospital to a wide variety of outside entities that includes judges, families, patients, gatekeepers and representatives from the Division of Mental Health and Addictions, the Joint Commission and other business relationships.
Works with sheriffs and courts to arrange for transportation to and from the hospital.
Provides notice to the courts of competency reports.
Communicates court hearings to appropriate internal and external parties.

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with a wide variety of persons and able to deal with contentious phone calls or visitors.
This person works with privileged and confidential information and is held to the highest ethical standards.
Must have good computer skills and knowledge of database applications and emails/word processing.
Specialized knowledge of theories, principles, and practices of administrative management.
Working knowledge of state governmental administrative structure.
Working knowledge of assigned program area.
Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively and multitask.
Ability to coordinate and motivate professional and support personnel.
Ability to communicate, both orally and verbally, with diverse public.
Attention to detail and proofreading skills.
Ability to establish cooperative work relationships.
Ability to analyze, update and write procedures and policies.
A degree is not required. However, at least 5+ years of experience applying the outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role may be considered.

This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
