Summary You will serve as a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN in the Propulsion Division (260) of the Engineering Department (200) of SUPSHIP. Responsibilities You will serve as an expert consultant furnishing technical advice to field and design personnel concerning the intent and application of detail and military specification requirements pertaining to ship propulsion and auxiliary systems. You will provide surveillance of contractor design and production engineering products. You will review and prepare proposed engineering contract changes to determine proposed change contains sufficient specifications to ensure clarity, correctness, suitability and engineering feasibility of arrangement and installation guidance plans. You will evaluate new designs and systems and determine acceptability and compliance with the intent of the specifications as well as confer with engineering personnel at equipment manufacturers and design agents. You will review test procedures for new material and devices in order to improve safety/cost/delivery. You will evaluate and perform surveillance of Contractor configuration management systems and procedures, including all requests for engineering changes and Departures from Specification. You will develop contract Field Modification Requisitions (FMR's) concerning engineering decisions reserved to those activities. You will review and analyze incoming correspondence and preparation of outgoing technical correspondence and prepare correspondence of acceptable quality. You will perform ship checks and similar functions and facilitate resolution of technical programs in cognitive systems/equipment. You will coordinate efforts and maintain liaison through meetings and conferences with Contractor supervisors, design engineers, vendors and other engineering personnel. You will participate as a team member on Integrated Product Teams (IPT) whose charters vary dependent on subject matter. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying technical engineering methodologies to perform surveillance, evaluation, and approval of ship propulsion and auxiliary systems undergoing construction, modernization or repair.
