The Nevada County Transit division is looking for a safety conscious individual who is excited to provide vital transportation services to our county residents! We are looking for drivers with a positive outlook and the following knowledge and skills.
Knowledge of:
Safe, defensive driving practices
California Motor Vehicle Code applicable to the operation of vehicles in public transportation
Basic maintenance of transit vehicles and related equipment
California Commercial Driver Handbook
Skill in:
Operating a transit vehicle safely
Maintaining order among passengers on a bus
Good customer service skills
Understanding and implementing verbal and written instructions
Proper use of two-way radio system
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those in the course of work

Education and Experience Required
Completion of twelfth grade or receipt of G.E.D.
Minimum of six months of driving experience in one or more of the following: public transit, a school district transit operation, or driving a commercial vehicle.
Possession of the following documents at time of application.
Passenger Endorsement Certificate permitting the licensee to operate public transit vehicles equipped with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 26,001 pounds or more.
California Class A or B Vehicle Operator's License
Department of Motor Vehicles Medical Certificate/DL-51
Vehicle Transit Training (VTT) Certificaterequired within three months of hire
Passenger transit driving experiencepreferred
Possession of current and valid Certification for Operation of a School Bus ishighly desirable
Possession of current and valid Certification for the operation of airbrakes isbeneficial, but not required.

The Bus Driver position operates a transit bus over a designated route in accordance with arranged time schedules, collects fares, picks up and discharges passengers at pre-arranged locations; monitors passenger behavior and maintains safe and orderly conditions aboard the vehicle, provides information regarding fixed route and paratransit service to patrons and the general public.
