Position Overview

The Lead Field Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership, field engineering oversight, and construction support for above-ground piping systems and combined cycle power generation facilities (CCGT). This role ensures that engineering standards, safety requirements, and project specifications are met across all phases of installation, commissioning, and operational support.

The engineer will serve as a key liaison between design engineering, construction contractors, and operations teams, applying professional engineering (PE-level) judgment to solve complex field issues and ensure high-quality project execution.

District Overview

TIC Power (TICP) is a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation that provides direct-hire construction services for Power Generation utilizing a non-union craft force. Strength in estimating and pre-project planning. Constructing cogeneration, combined-cycle, geothermal and waste-to-energy generation and resource facilities. TIC Power builds major EPC power plant projects throughout North America.

This position is located in the Homer City, PA area.

Responsibilities

Lead field engineering activities for above-ground piping installations, including layout, routing, supports, hydrotesting, QA/QC, and as-built verification.

Provide expert guidance on piping code requirements (ASME B31.1/B31.3) and ensure compliance across all field construction and modifications.

Review design drawings, isometrics, P&IDs, and specifications; identify constructability issues and propose field-fit solutions.

Serve as the primary technical authority for resolving piping, mechanical, and system integration challenges.

Support construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting of combined cycle plant systems including HRSG, steam turbine, gas turbine balance-of-plant, and associated piping systems.

Oversee installation, alignment, and testing of major CCGT equipment and auxiliary systems.

Coordinate with turbine OEMs, EPC teams, and plant operators to ensure safe, efficient commissioning and performance testing.

Lead daily field engineering coordination meetings and interface with cross-functional construction teams.

Manage field change requests, redlines, technical queries (RFIs), and engineering change notices.

Oversee contractor performance to ensure adherence to engineering standards, specifications, and safety procedures.

Assist in developing schedules, work packages, and labor/material estimates.

Enforce safety standards and hazard-mitigation practices related to piping, pressure systems, and CCGT equipment.

Conduct inspections, audits, and system walkdowns to verify quality and progress.

Support turnover documentation, punch list resolution, and system acceptance processes.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.

3-5+ years of field engineering experience in power generation, industrial construction, or large mechanical projects.

Demonstrated expertise in above-ground piping systems, including ASME codes, stress analysis concepts, and installation best practices.

Hands-on experience working with Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) systems, HRSG piping, steam systems, and turbine auxiliary equipment.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide rapid, technically sound solutions in the field.

Excellent communication skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary field teams.

Experience with EPC contractors, power plant commissioning, or outage support.

Proficiency with piping design/analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Navisworks, Caesar II).

Knowledge of NDE requirements, pressure testing, and QA/QC methodologies.

Previous leadership experience overseeing field engineering teams.
