What You Will Do
Join the Occupational Health (OH-DO) Division, which is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) employees. OH-DO collaborates and innovates with LANL partners to create a safe and healthy workplace by:
Providing medical surveillance exams for employees exposed to workplace hazards
Conducting medical certification and fitness-for-duty examinations to ensure employees can perform their work safely and securely
Managing medical accommodations and restrictions for employees with personal health conditions
Evaluating and treating employees with work-related injuries and illnesses
Offers a robust behavioral health program
The Staff Operations Manager serves as a strategic partner within the Occupational Health Division Office. This role partners with the division management team to plan, coordinate, and direct business, operational, and programmatic activities. Responsibilities include managing administrative, operational support, and professional staff. Additional responsibilities include oversight of time and labor reporting, training reports, procurement and budget activities, space and property management, employee hiring and onboarding, policy review, and management of delegated authorities.
The successful candidate will actively lead process improvement initiatives; prepare division-level staffing reports; coordinate responses to external data requests and assessments; develop formal mentoring and staff development plans; support budget agreements; and track business performance metrics. This role also executes or oversees high-level operational activities, including delegated authorities; approval of procurement processes and actions; monitoring and approving staff purchase activities; space administration; communication of human resources requirements; and participation in strategic planning efforts to improve overall OH-DO operations. The Staff Operations Manager serves as a liaison with both internal and external organizations.

Administrative/Operational Excellence: Advanced knowledge and demonstrated success in the administrative management of business, operational, and/or programmatic activities in the following areas: safety; quality; security; financial management; human resources; communications; government, community, and customer relations; training; and procurement.
Collaboration and Coalition Building: Advanced experience in team building and collaboration to develop, implement, and manage innovative process improvements.
Effective Communication: Advanced ability to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external personnel and customers. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including expert-level skill and proven experience in preparing reports, matrices, and presentations; drafting and implementing new processes and procedures; and preparing correspondence for executive-level managers.
Problem Solving: Advanced experience in effective decision-making and creative problem-solving, including the ability to research and recommend alternative solutions. Expert knowledge of, and demonstrated success in, developing, implementing, and managing innovation and process improvements.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and five years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Mentoring & Development: Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing administrative and professional staff, including setting performance goals, conducting performance reviews, and defining education and training objectives.
Occupational Health Operations: Knowledge of medical-specific business systems, including the electronic health record and Cority, to support strategic metrics planning, operations, and process improvement. Demonstrated experience working with and safeguarding personal health information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Laboratory Structure: Demonstrated knowledge of the Laboratory's organizational structure, policies, procedures, requirements, and various business systems. Proven ability to execute duties in alignment with Laboratory business, operational, and programmatic missions, goals, commitments, and critical issues.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
