Job Description
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs at St. Cloud State University invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Counselor Education. This faculty member will contribute to our CACREP-accredited master's-level Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling programs and join a collaborative, student-centered faculty team committed to student mentorship, academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement.
St. Cloud State University's Clinical Mental Health and Counselor Education faculty seek a colleague who is enthusiastic about working in a collaborative, team-based environment and helping prepare the next generation of professional counselors. The successful candidate will contribute to programs known for their strong commitment to counselor student development, culturally integrated teaching, clinical excellence, and interdisciplinary partnership.
Our programs provide students with strong clinical training opportunities, including on-site practicum experiences in the College of Health and Wellness Professions' clinical training clinic, where students participate in supervised counseling practice supported by bug-in-the-ear supervision. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling program recently completed its 8-year CACREP accreditation cycle and has submitted its self-study under the 2024 CACREP standards, with a site visit scheduled for April 2026. The programs maintain long-standing partnerships with professional and community organizations and are recognized for their collaborative approach to counselor preparation, student development, and wellness-focused initiatives.
Faculty and students engage in a range of interdisciplinary collaborations that support wellness and behavioral health across settings, including integrated behavioral health initiatives, support for first-year nursing students, support for international students, and youth programming in partnership with the YMCA. Primary responsibilities include teaching graduate courses in CACREP accredited Counselor Education programs, with opportunities to teach at the undergraduate level. Strong or successful applicants will have a background in teaching, supervision, and research in Clinical Mental Health. Service to the program, department, College of Health and Wellness Professions, and St. Cloud State University will also be required.
To be considered for tenure and promotion, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: 1) teach and/or perform assignment effectively; 2) conduct scholarly achievement or research; 3) continue preparation and study in the discipline; 4) contribute to student growth and development; and 5) provide service to the university and community (IFO Article 22, Section B).

Minimum Qualifications
Qualified Candidate has experience or has evidence of culturally integrated teaching and clinical practice.
Clinical experiences in working with children, adolescents or family counseling.
Evidence of Social Justice & Advocacy work in mental health
Qualified Candidate has research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education.
Qualified candidates will have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program. ABD will be considered if degree is conferred by August 1st, 2026.
Qualified Candidates demonstrate active engagement in Counselor Education Identity.

Preferred Qualification
Experience or certifications in one or more of the following areas: Play Therapy, Thera-Play, Trauma Focus with children or adolescents.

Clinical Supervision
Evidence of across community or interdisciplinary settings.
Experience with CACREP (site team reviewer experience)
